As has been discussed above, I would trade for Giannis. I would have a conversation about Luka, but that is basically it. Wings are the most important position in the modern NBA, and he is a switchable wing with great foot work, a wet jumpshot, killer instinct, and defense at 21 with 6'9 size.

Couple all of that with him being our homegrown star, and the list of trade targets is tiny.

Yeah I think I take it back. I would probably trade for Giannis, but to be honest, maybe I'm being biased but....

I think in 2-3 years, Tatum will maybe be close enough to Giannis's level.

Against Utah Tatum grabbed 11 rebounds.

He runs his butt off to get back on defense every time.

Havlicek was legendary for running for the entire game. It killed the guys who were covering him.

Look at Tatum for the camera close up when he's at the foul line, he's gassed, but, he runs anyway.

He plays as hard as anyone. He chases his guy on every play.

Better get him a title.

That's it.

Maybe Kawhi? But given the age difference I'd rather Tatum in the long term obviously.

Its game 7 with 40 sec to go. You are down 2 (or 3)

Would you rather have Giannis or Tatum have the ball?

Not saying Tatum is better. But in these kind of instances, Tatum holds more value than Giannis no?

He will never physically dominate like Giannis, but that kind of domination usually has a shorter window as athleticism slowly wanes. Tatum's skill- and finesse-oriented domination is MUCH more dangerous in the long term and in the clutch (Giannis still isnt a threat from 3). Look at someone like Duncan and Lebron (in his later years), who developed a dangerous jumpshot late in his career and is still dominating because of it.

I can't do it. I'm not saying he is better than everyone in the NBA, or even a better young player than anyone in the NBA.

But I can't and won't trade Tatum for anything.

how do you know this for sure? I mean except a few inches in height and longer wingspan

Giannis was a scrawny kid in his first few years in the league, before he really bulked up.... to the monster we see today

Tatum also bulked up nicely for his third season

And I don't think he is a finished product in this department

Game 7, 40 seconds is still a lot of time.

you're all overlooking one of Tatum's prime qualities that no other player in the league can offer us --> the ability to grin from ear to ear each time he plays knowing we got him and Langford for Markelle Fultz from the geniuses in Philly.  that alone almost makes him untradeable

Freak, Kawhi, Doncic. No one else. I don't trust Durant's health long-term.

To me, the tough question is Jokic. When you take a guy like AD, the offense has to go to AD. With Jokic, the offense goes through him. Dude can make 18 footers all day, and he may be the best passer in the NBA. Incredible offensive talent, but he'd be a liability the way we play D.

Lebron is too old, Embiid isn't going to all of the sudden not get injured, and guys like Lillard are a big defensive liability.

Ainge was wise to hold onto Tatum. IMO, he's going to be our best player since Bird.

It looks right now like another one to pile on the list of wrong takes/ predictions by me. One of these times I’ll post the whole ridiculous list so I can be banned for a month. Ha.
But I said something to the effect of Tatum is Carmelo- lite. He’ll never be Pierce level. He’s not instinctive like a Pierce or say Kevin McHale ( different position of course) where he could react to his opponents body instinctively.
I still don’t see this with Tatum anywhere close to a Pierce level and he’s still going nuts so I’m thrilled to be wrong. He’s looking amazing.

No one.

Not even Freak. Nor Doncic.

Sure I'm biased. But neither of those guys can score in so many ways like Tatum.

Nobody but mainly because I like the idea of developing homegrown talent and seeing those players grow not only their own game but that of the team.
