If the Celts were to trade one of them, who you guys prefer the Celts keep Kanter or Theis?

Neither unless we're getting a massive upgrade over them not named Steven Adams or Andre Drummond.
Jaylen Brown for All-NBA

Adams or Drummond is not a massive upgrade over Theis and Kanter?

If the Celts were to trade one of them, who you guys prefer the Celts keep Kanter or Theis?
Depends on what is coming back. They have different functions. Theis is better at perimeter defense, team defense and perimeter offense. Kanter is better at man defense around the basket and interior offense. If the player coming back is good at only one of those things and not both, you want to keep the player that offers you a counter.

If the player is good at both, hmm ... I trust Kanter more than Theis. Kanter is not as good a team player but I know what I am going to get from every night. I do not have the same trust in Theis after his first 2 and a half seasons here despite his strong play this season.

Couldn't have said it better myself!

This is my preference. I prefer the combination of Williams and Kanter over Theis and Kanter. My preference is for Theis to be moved. He's solid, but he's way too small to be a starting center. Al Horford put him into the basket the other day which is no fault of his own. He's just too small.

Williams isn't that tall, but he has a better frame than Theis and looks more the part. I would like for Kanter to start and for Williams to back him up. I would like Fall to be the emergency 3rd big.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I think they provide different functions. Kanter is only a Center, while Theis can play either big position well (enough). Gun to my head, knowing nothing about who we are bringing in, I probably keep Kanter, but I'd like to see a role for both of them moving forward. If we brought in a surefire starting Center (or Time Lord made 'the jump'), I'd honestly rather Theis play that back-up PF role over GWill. He has the size and such a nice all-around game on both ends that he just fits in seamlessly with whoever is around him.
