If Gordon Hayward opts out, what will it take to resign him?

If Gordon Hayward continues to perform at a high-level he will likely opt out of the final year of his contract with the Celtics. Given that is a real possibility what do you guys think he should be offered by the Celtics to stay, and how much is too much money?

I'm one of the bigger Hayward fans on this site, and I think you start by offering him a 40% haircut.  Something in the line of 18.6 million a year for 2 or 3 years seems appropriate to me.  If he walks, good luck to him and his next team.

A very good player when he's healthy, Hayward's availability has been a huge problem for the Celtics for his entire tenure. Even the reputable Jackie MacMullan reported that the preferential treatment Brad has shown him has rankled teammates and submarined a promising season.

Fair points  but i don't think they matter in such negotiations. Although  would like GH to think that way i don't expect him to.

I was pro Ainge when he took decisions based of facts and not sentimentaly so expecting GH to put first his emotions whould be hypocritical.

Having said that if he finished the season the way he started it and without any more injuries i can definitely opting out and asking 25m for multiple years

Same here, he's a really good offensive player who actually scales well on good teams.

Yeah, plus we've locked up JB long-term and I really like the pairing those two provide on both ends of the court.

If he stays healthy and plays at his current level I think he'll get a max 4 year offer from some bad teams.

The only question is does he want to go to a bad team to get that deal or not.

This is the problem with the NBA, with what money?

If we renounced every FA, Kanter opts out, waive Theis, etc. the Celtics will have.........about $15 million in cap room. So instead of an high level glut at the wing we can sign, someone on the level of Dwyane Dedmon? Yuck.

Celtics won't even have cap space the year after that because Tatum will then be on his new contract as well. If Hayward opts out the C's have to try very hard to resign him unless they're willing to downgrade the teams talent by a big margin.

At Horford's age (same as Hayward's this offseason) it took the C's offering 3/1 max deal to get him away from his existing team. I imagine Hayward would be offered the same. (assuming health and all-star level play he's displayed when on the court this year sustains)

I can see Memphis , Atlanta and Cleveland lining up for him.
It won't surprise me if Grizzlies offer him the 4 yr max to screw with celtics for the draft pick....  They did sign Parsons 4 years ago on a 4 yr max.

Hayward’s max is 35% of the salary cap.  I don’t see him getting that.

3 years at $28-30 million per year with an option year sounds about right.
