I suggest the biggest story line from the shorthanded Hawks game was Grant Williams. He was playing naturally and within the flow of the game. During play, he doesn't stick out that much, he's usually correctly placed on defense and isn't showing much on offense yet as he is usually on the court with two of the better shooters in the league.

He is way too small to hang around underneath. His arms are too short. He still is struggling from three, but, beyond those mammoth liabilities? Grant is ttarting to look aok. He is watching the game a little too much, but, this gets overridden by his instincts.

In the last four Celtic's games he has gotten more minutes due to injuries.

Averages for the 4 games:

Minutes 20.4
Points 6.75
FG% 54.5% (12/22)
3 PTS 0 for 4
FT 60% (3/5)
Rebs 5.2
Ast 1.5
TO .75 pg (3)
Stls 1 pg (4)
Blocks 1 pg (4)

What stands out are the blocks and steals. He knows his opponent's and their tendencies and he hangs around with well known pick pocket Marcus Smart, learning from the master.

A great role player.  Really fitting in.

Is this the upper limit you see for Grant?

Imo a starting role is not out of question down the line

this has been the same "it can't be done" story for players like Chuck Hayes, PJ Tucker, Barkley, Rodman, Draymond Green

Need more sample size but kid plays bigger than his size and has the strength to make it interesting

Btw his arm is not short for height.  He has a 6'11 wingspan I believe.  Considering he is 6'6,  his wingspan is considered above average

Grant Williams and Semi Ojeleye have an elite 96.2 defensive rating in their 131 minutes together, the third best defensive pairing among Boston's regulars. (Wanamaker/Theis, GWilliams/Theis)

I really think so much of this is the amount of time on the court together. Everybody's hurt? They play a lot.

Semi is on the money. He does not turn the ball over and the guy he defends usually doesn't get way with much. Some day he'll score a bunch. He is one of the better slashers on the team, he just prefers to pass it to one of the "4 all stars" on the court with him.

Just wanted to talk about Grant's offensive rebounding: he has that Barkley/Moses old school move of parking himself right under the basket and close to the baseline to grab misses if he's not tasked to run back and defend after a shot goes up, and it has resulted in quite a few nice offensive caroms.

Am I reading this correctly?  You think Semi is one of the better slashers on the team?

I disagree

Semi has not shown anything related to slashing from what I have seen

He actually gets his shot blocked near the basket more than anyone would like

I do agree with the other assessments.  He doesn't turn the ball over.  He shoots the 3 very well (especially as of late).

defensively he can guard 2 to 4 very well and 1 and 5 on a pinch

I hope the Celts can lock him up.  Shouldn't be too costly unless another team overpays for his value

Semi to me is a more down to earth, less emotional Jae Crowder.

its weird because just like last month, he rarely grabbed offensive rebounds.  Usually missing the mark in his positioning

But these days he is looking like a mini Kanter out there

No doubt credit goes to Kanter for teaching Grant. + Grant ability to learn and apply

My favorite Grant play last night was the drive up the middle of the paint with 37 seconds left.   That play was a veteran, no-hesitation move and it iced the game.

NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.

I think he had 2 such Smart-esque takeaways in the game.  He’s learning from everyone.

21 years old and showing steady improvement.  What more can you ask? Looks like a good pick at 22 for Danny.
