Ever since last season it's always excuses for Jaylen Brown.

Now he's being paid around 26m per year, so I think it's time to stop making excuses for Jaylen.

Reason why Brown got in foul trouble is he was playing the 4.
Maybe Brown can handle the 4s in college and FIBA, but 4s in the NBA are stronger and better.
When the game started, Jaylen was guarding Horford.
That resulted in Jaylen getting in foul trouble.
Jaylen is not an NBA 4.
There would be no excuses if he ever got the opportunity that a player with his contract would usually get on the court.

Partly agree with you on that point.

The problem is Tatum and Hayward are simply better than Brown.
And Marcus Smart is also getting minutes at SG.

Last season I said the Celts had to choose between Brown and Hayward.

Right now Hayward is proving the doubters wrong.
Hayward is playing very well.

I don't know how Ainge is going to upgrade the team, but what Brad did in the last few minutes of the 4th, it just won't work.
What I mean by that is Brad put 1 PG and 4 wings on the court.
That means the Celts had no rim protection and rebounding.

The Celtics missed 14 free throws in a 14 point loss. On to game two!

you won't be happy until he's traded.  thankfully Danny sees the talent there and signed him before the season started so he can focus on just playing.  Brown wasn't the issue tonight

+1.  When you get 3 fouls from really bad calls and are forced to sit because of it, you aren't the problem.   And jaylen isn't getting traded anytime soon so Fierce is going to have a long season.

I find his strange, he did really well on Horford tonight. I don't remember every foul he committed but I know that 4 of them were on Harris, Ennis, Richardson and one on Ebiid (offensive). So none on a guy playing power forward or in the post.

Reason is Brown had to switch a lot to protect the paint.

When you play the 4 or the 5, you're responsible for the players rolling to the basket.
That's why Brown ended up fouling Harris and the others.
If Brown was playing SF on defense, he wouldn't have to switch on the players that were rolling to the basket.

When Horford was setting a pick, Brown had to cover the player that Horford had to set a pick for.
That means Brown must stop the player coming off the Horford pick from driving to the basket.

Again man, not what happened. At most one of his fouls was off a switch. He committed one foul biting on a pump fake (no switch). Another fighting around a screen near the three point line (opposite of a switch). One against Embiids face (not even on defense). One cutting a guy off on the drive (not off a switch). The last I don't remember.

There is nothing wrong with Jaylen covering most 4s. Brad does it, Pop did it, those guys arent stupid.

Yeah it was a weird and frustrating game.  It was going to be a tough one to win either way.

agreed.  he's going to have a long few years bemoaning Jaylen collecting a paycheck from the C's.

Jaylen's bound to have some real stinker games -- everyone will.  tonight wasn't one of them.

They were down 14 when Brad went that direction, they played it pretty much even from there. Drawing conclusions from that sample is crazy.

Yeah, not fun to watch. It was a sloppy ugly game but it's a long season.

If anything, Tatum is on the pedestal. Year 3 and he have shown minimal improvement since his rookie season. Langford can easily replace Tatum's scoring production if he reaches his potential. But he won't be able to replace Brown's versatility on both ends.

Where Horford would have made the difference tonight was defending Simmons. That is why he generally struggled against us.

Not tonight.

Hope we can find someone. Hayward, Tatum and Theis couldn’t.

Hayward had a decent offensive night.

But I thought he really struggled defensively. Both against Simmons and later Harris.

I like Semi matched up on Simmons. Maybe next time.

zero net presence in the 2nd half.  Everytime the Celts went on a run, the 76ers had little to no problems driving everything hard to the basket

why didn't Robert Williams get more mins?  I know I sound like a broken record, but this is how frustrated I'am with CBS thinking

Brad could have played both Kanter and Robert williams to stop the bleeding (interior punishment) and sat one of Smart, Tatum, Hayward

Instead there goes small ball Brad again  :-X

Last season Brown didn't cover 4s.

This is the first time Brad used Brown as a 4.

It was Morris, Horford, and sometimes Tatum covering the 4s last season.

Simmons was too strong inside for Hayward.
