I am excited to see Philly. They have got a great team.

I would like to see them win the Championship this year.

Who, w t f mate?

I love Horford and Simmons is a lot of fun. Embiid is interesting. Josh Richardson is likable. That Thybulle kid is downright lovable. That is a fun group.

Plus, they're BIG! In a sucky era of three pointers galore ... I'd love to see a team win by going big and beating up those smaller teams.

Plus, I don't like any of the other contenders. I don't like Bucks (mechanical, over-reliant on Giannis and he can't make a jump-shot). I don't like the Clippers (not because of their players -- it's just ... the clippers, bleh). Lakers might very well be second choice despite LeBron because I love Anthony Davis so much (and also Rondo). Heck, I am even rooting for Dwight to get it together again (I loved him in Orlando).

The Warriors are a maybe. Steph and Draymond are awesome. I like WCS. We'll see what state Klay is in come playoff time. Not a D-Russell fan. But ... they've won enough. I'd like to see a new Champ.

Philly #1
Lakers #2

I can respect that. I still do love, Al, even if I question that fit in Philly.

But the Lakers over the Clippers? What has you so down on them? Even after Kawhi's drama leaving San Antonio, I think he's one of the more likable players in the NBA. And PG is similar. Add Doc and being a rival to the hated Lakers, and I actually really like that group.

The Lakers will miss the playoffs as the Clippers prove that they're the marquee franchise in Los Angeles once again like the past six years.

We own a lot of real estate in their heads.
Boston wins, of course.

West has more basketball. IQ than Lebron , Magic and the whole Lakers organization put together .

As Celtics we are lucky West is no longer working for Lakers

Nothing in particular about them.

I just don't like the Clippers. I like old teams with history (like Philly or Knicks) over newer teams (like Magic or Heat). Clippers have some history but it is terrible history. Intentionally losing to make more money for so many years. So they are starting from a bad point for me.

I don't like Kawhi that much. I don't dislike him. He is hard to connect with it. He has no personality. He has no flair. Limited creativity. He is not someone where I think "oh great, Kawhi is on TV. That will be exciting to watch". One of the least engaging stars I can remember.

I don't like PG13's offensive game. Too reliant on long jump-shots. He is lucky that the league has gone that way. It has bailed him out. Hidden his inability to properly develop as someone who attacks the basket and/or can play in the post. Who can utilize all that size and athleticism.

Again, a lot of there other guys -- it is respect rather than enjoy. Guys like Pat Beverley. Harrell (undersized PF pretending to be a C which he gets away with because of this pathetic era of basketball). Shamet. Lou Williams (I sometimes enjoy him).

Don't get me wrong. Clippers are the best team in the league and should win the Championship. I would just prefer to see Philly or the Lakers win instead of them.

------------

I don't like the way that team was put together. How it happened. The way PG13 ended up there.  That rubbed me the wrong way.

Rooting  for us to win, I think it will be a hard game for us.   But take heart, getting Al Horford all the sudden is not going to make Ben Simmons care or have a fire for the game and Embiid is still likely to get tired as he often does.   I think the key will be pace, and pushing the ball for us.   I think our guards have an edge over Philly.   I think we should run them into the ground, to tire out their bigs.

TP to footey for thread.

Philly rarely pays the Celtics well. Not sure why, it's just this group of 76'ers has a tough time figuring out the Celtics.

On paper, they should beat the Celtics, but, they lack several answers to what the Celtics have at both ends.

I agree C's bench, has the potential to be lethal and not sure about Philly.

No answer for Embiid, but, there's a bunch of other guys on the court too.

Walker hits a free throw to win it in OT.

Boston plays Philly well because they had people to cause Embiid problems. That is gone now.

You realize that Philly lost Jimmy Butler and JJ Redick, right?  Who is picking up that long slack?

Al Horford and Josh Richardson. A larger role for Tobias Harris (which he needed in order to become effective again). And hopefully some continued growth from Ben Simmons and Embiid.

It is not like Simmons, Butler and Embiid had good chemistry together either. That was a dysfunctional Big Three. Tobias Harris did not fit as a 4th wheel either. This new group fits together better than the old one did.

Celtics will get off to a hot start but Philly will slowly grind us down in the half court after they settle down.  I'll go with a final score prediction of 102-95 in a relatively ugly game.

I see your point, but that simply does not convince me that Philly is winning a championship this season.

Hmm I don't really get the argument that their pieces fit together better now. Tobias Harris is best served as a 4, AL and Embiid are definitely both best at the 5 (I know horford has been good along Baynes at times, but he is getting slower every year). Reddick was far and away their best shooter and at extremely high volume. Definitely were a bit more balanced before and lost their closer down the stretch.

Orlando preseason game gives me hope we can handle long teams like Philly. Hoping Brad can scheme to minimize Embiid’ strength.
