4 years, $130 mil.

That's over 30 mil for a guy who has never scored 17 ppg in a season.

I'm not saying he does or doesn't deserve it. I haven't seen enough of him and, from what I understand, he's an incredible defender who can score in a variety of ways. And maybe he's not done developing.

But man... That's a lot of money.

I mean, neither has Jayson Tatum but that doesn't stop posters from acting like he's the 2nd coming. I'd venture to guess that if Tatum doesn't eclipse that mark this season or improve his defense, posters will still call for him to get a max extension next offseason. Contrarily, Jamal Murray scored 18ppg during the regular season and pushed it up to 21ppg in the playoffs after helping the Nuggets return to the postseason last year, but there are posters here that don't think he was worthy of his max deal either.

TL;DR
Just because they're not Celtics, doesn't mean they're not good enough to warrant the max.

Really RJ? Have you seen people eager to ship Jaylen out?

He was the second leading scorer on a 58 win team that won the NBA championship in his 3rd year in the league.  He has excellent range and is a very efficient shooter.  He is a credible rebounder, passer, and defender.  He has taken massive leaps each season.  He looks even better this preseason.

If he were a Celtic he wouldn't have all this praise. ;)
when a Celtic does that, you will see the same praise (though Tatum is off to a fine start, just needs to keep building in this, his third year).

Didn’t last night.
11 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block in 22 minutes isn't bad at all.

I've seen people be hesitant to give Jaylen a max which is fair, IMO. He's been great in spurts but I don't think he's sustained the level of play over the course of season that would make him a max player. And that still doesn't change the fact that people talk about Tatum's max extension as if it's a foregone conclusion.

I would love it if either of the Jays can come in and show they type of growth that we've already seen out of guys like Siakam and Murray.

Paskal is the man. If you have seen this guy play ten games last year you should know he's worth 130 million all day everyday in today's league.

These African kids come here ready to work. That is a compliment. You see it with Tacko as well. He just lacks athleticism not desire. Gianni's has outworked everyone.

Siakim as a two way player there is only a handful of better players in the world.

I actually watched the game, not just read the box score. Did you?

And he was a huge reason Toronto was able to get the #2 seed despite Kawhi missing 20+ regular season games. They were actually in the fight for the #1 seed right until the end of the season.

People will try to belittle his talent, but the dude is good player - on both ends of the court. He's noticeably improved every year he's been in the league.

He's definitely a good player, but people overrate him given he's only been in the league a few years. However, most don't realize that he's already 25 years old. He's virtually 4 full years older than Tatum, yet they were drafted in the same draft.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

I think his great improvement last season, was tied to Kawhi. I think he will struggle more this season. He is not really very good at creating his own shot in half court sets. He gets his points mostly by transition and corner 3s.

Yes but he didn't starting playing basketball until he was 16.

Yeah and they’re willing trade him for garbage. Sooner or later someone is giving them the max.

He wasn't in Tatum's draft anyway.  He was in Brown's draft, that is why he can be extended now, same as Brown.

What does Siakam's agreement mean for Boston's Jaylen Brown?

Brown, if he does not come to an agreement with the Celtics on an extension before Monday night's deadline, is now positioned to be maybe the marquee name among the 2020 free-agent class. With many potential big names off the board - including Draymond Green who agreed to an extension with the Warriors this summer - Brown would be a desirable target for teams even as a restricted free agent.

Jaylen Brown wants the max and he hasn't even averaged 15 points per game in his 3 seasons with the Celts.
