Silver has stated the financial ramifications have been huge. What if this is a long term issue and causes the salary cap to drop?

Will the Celtics be in a bit of some dog poop with keeping both of these guys beyond their rookie deals?
ok fine

I feel like it'd hurt our chances of losing them more than our chances of keeping them, considering we have their RFA rights.

I think that if the cap does go down it will mean teams will be less likely to throw max contracts at relatively unproven youngsters, so not sure if it'll cost us.

I don't understand the correlation.

In any event, I think that how we perform this season will determine whether or not we pay above market, or max deal, to Jaylen.  I am skeptical that Jaylen and Danny will reach agreement despite Danny's recently expressed optimism.

Wyc is not going to agree to pay the steep luxury tax unless he is convinced that this team is championship caliber.  After last season, how can he take that leap of faith?

I think the idea is cap / luxury tax space

The flip side is that a decrease in revenue would make their salaries smaller.  The readjustment of caps would lessen how much money they could actually earn.  This is out of the Celtics and the players' control in regards to the maximum, so a rebounding revenue as tensions in China lose traction could make those contracts ideal.

As of now, it will just make the current contracts that are above 30M very difficult to swallow.  Again, this is assuming that there is an actual decrease of 10-15%.

Good points. Also, it wouldn't be just the Celtics affected by this. All teams would under any such decrease.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

In regards to cap the big market teams can easily pay the tax. A lower salary cap hinders the smaller market teams adding players as less money on the free market means more chance of resigning.

Hopefully this thing with China gets worked out (although there's a part of me that wishes the NBA would tell China to go screw because of how they treat their countries.)

Wouldn't mind Adam Silver either begin or expand a relationship with a new country and continue to expand in Europe. Hate to see the league I enjoy watching be so monetarily dependent on a bunch of communists.

From what I know the NBA is already doing that, but the money from China is just obscene. You're not replacing the money that the Chinese market brings in that easily.

Overpaid relative to what? Their play is what generates the revenue that supports their salaries.

It's interesting no one calls for owners to make less money.

The salary cap seems to be impacted the most, at least from my interpretation. We can go over the cap for both of these guys and Wyc is going to pay the luxury tax to do so. I think other teams and players will see more of an impact than we will.
