“Grant Williams talks. I talk trash. It’s different,” Smart told reporters Thursday. “He talks. He literally talks non-stop, and I think it’s annoying Jayson (Tatum). He might want to leave Jayson alone for a couple of days.” This isn’t anything new for the first-round pick. His constant chatter has caught the attention of past teammates on numerous occasions. “They already said they’re getting tired of my voice,” Williams said per CLNS Media. “That’s part of it. My teammates in Tennessee said the same thing after a 20-game season. I can only imagine after 82, 82-plus.” Of course, this is all in good fun, but Tatum has done his fair share of light-hazing toward Williams. On-the-spot push-ups have become a common occurrence, according to the Boston Herald’s Mark Murphy.

Day four of pre-season and we are already worried about chemistry.  ::)

I noticed this actually in some of the highlight videos, but Tatum was definitely giving it back and it was all in good fun.

I used to razz a number of my friends and thought it was all in fun. I never realized how annoying it could be until I overheard a conversation between my friends discussing my barbs. Cut way back on it since. Think it made my friendships better. Still do some razzing, but I compliment a lot more now.

My feeling is William's would be better off cutting back too. Eventually, this behavior will lead to animosity and friction between the players.

I thought Williams was more complimentary and positive in his jawings.

Thanks for clarifying, I should have listened to the banter before commenting.

Pure speculation, and really see no evidence that this will happen.  Grant likes to talk.  Vets will put him in his place, if necessary.

It's like when you get a new job.  The first couple weeks/months (depending on your job and how much there is to learn) you are given a pass since you don't know how things operate in the new place.  Then the 'honeymoon' sort of ends and you fall in line.  At least that's my experience.

^this. I'm more concerned about Williams acclimating to NBA competition than him drawing the ire of Tatum lol.

I read an article and it said Tatum was whipping him in shooting contests and making Grant do pushups

;D He also said he can get it to work on Tatum a lot but it rarely bothers Smart. Also, they said it’s not trash talking just a LOT of talking.

If I’m not mistaken, I think pretty much all of our players have mentioned Grant’s talking and none of them did so in a negative light. I think maybe Hayward and Kemba haven’t but it’s been so much talk about it over the last week that they could have and it slipped my mind.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Quite unusual for a rookie to do a lot of talking even when positive. I think it is just Grant's personality to be a rah rah kind of guy. As log as he keeps it positive I think it is all good. Go Celtics!!!

This is what I'm thinking. There were reports last season about different guys getting introverted and not talking. Not good for teamwork. As long as the talking Williams is doing is productive or fun (and it sounds like it is) I think this is a good thing.

Last season we had guys fighting for contracts and being introverts and making broken promises and not playing exceptionally well after a season-ending injury and having their own agendas rather than team agenda.

This team is completely different.
