Tracey, wade and paul going too early imo.

Great for ke getting more of my guys later

No...I would have Wade as a top 30 player or so. I think he was picked about right.

With 3(9) the ninth pick in the third round of the draft, the Los Angeles Lakers select Tracy McGrady!

Dang, thought he was gonna slip. Was gonna pair him up with Dr. J.
No way lol, his peak was as good as Kobe's.
Great value pick. His peak Orlando days had some gaudy all time stats.
Yeah, he's also one of the few superstars who upped their game in the playoffs.

But never lifted his team out of the first round, which is a knock.  For a third pick, though, he should be stellar.
That's where KG and Steph step in with their ceiling raising and championship pedigree. I needed a guy who had a peak rivalling the better perimeter engines (yes in terms of impact too, I'm not just looking at the scoring numbers, his impact footprint during his peak was huge).

Another pick I think is a round too early....at least.

I don't know...when we played this Hist. Draft back in 2011 I'd say this pick was early - along with the Kawhi pick.

Now? Posters here are obviously (to me, at least) trying to tailor their picks to TODAY'S NBA...can't blame them for that.

Fit is important.

For me - beyond the flashy games and egos can players fit together? Can they take a step back and let others shine?

I'd guess that an early 2000's KG would've LOVED to have had Steph Curry and T-Mac. Dude may have gotten past the Lakers back then - or at least took them to 7 games.
I'm assuming that the games will be played under modern rules, or else I would've stuck 3 big men and 2 oversized guards/wings into my lineup lol.

I am shocked that, for me, a top 20 player in league history, is still on the board.

Btw did Greenrunsdeep leave a draft board? We probably are running way ahead of schedule though so I guess I'll hit the sack and let the draft board I sent Nick do the work.

No draftboard from greenrunsdeep so we could be here as long as an hour and a half.

I also think it is a round, maybe 2, early for all 3 of those guys.  There are several players at each of their positions that I think are better, both in career and in a single season.

McGrady at least has the super gaudy stats in that 02-03 season, but with mediocre at best defense and no playoff success, I'm surprised he went in the 3rd round.  I figured middle to late 4th round at best.

Wade had a ton of playoff success and showed he could integrate and play well with others (i.e. Shaq early on and then James/Bosh later on), but he was never very efficient and was also a mediocre at best defender.  I think early 4th round was probably more appropriate for him, so middle to late 3rd isn't a terrible reach.

Paul was an elite defender and an excellent passer, but I never trusted his scoring, his health, or his attitude.  Plus he was fairly ball dominant.  3rd round is just way too high for him.  I didn't do a full board, but just thinking about who is still left, I think he is much more suited as a 5th round pick.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Ah him. I mean there are some concerns over whether he'd fit the modern NBA, but yeah I'm surprised to see no one pick him.

Again, imagine these players all having grown up with all the same training, diets, supplements, AAU teams, financial freedom, and playing in the same rules.

What do their games look like now? What would their stats look like now? How dominant would they be now?

This player not chosen would dominate today's game.

I am not concerned about his fit in today's NBA. I think he'd dominate. I was concerned about his high usage and how he'd fit on my team though. It could work okay but it is not really what I want for how I want my team to play.
