Shocking in terms of trade filler.

Not shocking in terms of shown play.

Wonder who they like for the 15th spot. Waters seems destined for Maine.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I guess I was totally wrong about that one. Inexplicable unless they are getting a quality vet to sign here for the minimum. I like a lot of our young guys, but I can't imagine this is to sign Fall or Green to the 15-man roster.

Best for everyone. Yabu is simply not an NBA player. He was taking up space.

Agreed. This move only makes sense if someone is coming in that will get actual play time

It would help with our lack of vet presence, too
I'm bitter.

I don't think anyone doubts that Yabu is not worthy of a roster spot, the only question was whether or not the Celts wanted to retain his salary for trade purposes. Apparently they don't.

Timing is weird. They must be royally p!ssed that after they picked up his option he came into his last chance to make the team at Summer League in the horrible physical shape he did. You would figure Ainge might try to salary dump him but decided neither the cap space nor the second rounder nor the money you might need to send along in the trade was worth it. He also must not have seen losing a $3 million salary filler contract was worth keeping Yabu on the roster.

So the only question now is: Is Danny going to use the roster spot on a vet min guy who can give this team meaningful rotational minutes or yet another guy even younger and more inexperienced than Yabu was?

I was surprised that DA did this.  Not that it was unwarranted, just a surprise.  Hard to imagine that this is to make space for one of our summer league guys but who knows.  Maybe the team has seen a lot more from Tacko that we thought?

Or probably just opening up a vet min space to get some more vet leadership on the team.

I wonder if his injury is such that he's out a while and the C's were already done with him based on his poor condition and play.

Does he have a trade lined up where the Celtics need the extra roster spot?

Or are there three guys he wants but only has two two-way contracts?
