Thought I’d map out our current roster just to see how good or bad our roster is right now:

STARTERS
5 Robert Williams
4 Gordon Hayward
3 Jayson Tatum
2 Marcus Smart
1 Kemba Walker

BENCH
1st big: Grant Williams
1st swing: Jaylen Brown
1st playmaker: Carson Edwards
Utility: Semi Ojeleye

GARBAGE TIME
Guerschon Yabusele
Romeo Langford
Tremont Waters

*****
VERDICT:
As a lot on this board have stated, we have a really bad rotation up front. Timelord and Williams as our best options? Yikes! Also, I didn’t realize that the backup playmaker slot was a lot weaker than I thought.

We're going to start Jaylen and use Marcus as the bench playmaker I think. But we will see what Brad decides to do.

Alternatively I wouldn't be shocked if we brought in a budget backup PG like Wanamaker/Larkin to fill that role in case the rookies can't handle it.

Frontcourt is....ummm....less than desirable at the moment.

Actually, I think Yabusele will not be garbage time; he will probably figure into the rotation. I see the 5 spot being shared in pretty equal minutes among RW3, Theis and Yabu.  Yabu played decently in spot minutes last season; e.g., when he was called to start a game or two, he played well. He plays hard.  I am not saying he is the solution to our problems - he's not - but to relegate a guy with his size, effort and some skill who plays a position of need, to the garbage pile is misguided.

This team can go either way...a lot of questions..

Does Brown and Tatum take the next step that is a must?
Does Hayward get back to the player he once was?
Do the rookies off the bench get an opportunity to play?
And how does the front court round out and contribute?

Right now the front court is putrid. Williams is a guy that has to take the game seriously and has to improve. He really needs to be a back up.

If Yabu is a rotation player then it is going to be a long season. He has absolutely zero value and is not a NBA player whatsoever.

I find it hard to justify starting Smart when we have such little playmaking off the bench. Let Kemba and Hayward deal with the majority of the playmaking duties for the starting lineup I say.

I also think we shore up our bigs in the coming days, which should make this look nicer.

I agree, as of 7/1, but there is another big coming for sure, Looney, Stein, Kanter, maybe swing something for Favors....

agree.

roster is not close to set right now but based on who we have, I'd figure primary people running our offense are Kemba and Hayward with Smart off the bench with either Kemba or Hayward still on the court.  probably 2 of those 3 on the court 90% of the time.  Edwards as fourth guard to provide mostly offense but some ball handling as well.

Grant Williams will be a wildcard.  supposedly great passer with a real understanding of the game, if our thin front court requires him to get serious minutes, he may respond well and offer another high-post passer which would be good to have.  not optimistic about a rookie contributing in that respect but we'll see what happens

Not optimistic about playing a wing who's better off as a pure 3 at the 4 full time.

I would be very disappointed with this group. Sorry but to think Robert Williams will be a suitable starting center at this stage of his career is delusional. Not to mention he is an injury waiting to happen.

Grant Williams is a rookie, him being the first or second big off the bench is also disappointing. We have to be better than this, come on Danny seriously. We need a few serviceable vets to eat minutes on that front line.

Will trading him and some 2nd round picks open up any cap space?
