Well, that’s the only way a Horford return can work with Kemba, although I’d note that I included a non-Rozier option using the Baynes trade to Phoenix.

And I’d happily take Al back at that price.  With or without Kemba.

Maybe Horford is having second thoughts after the Kemba Walker news.  Until the news broke, it looked like Horford could get paid AND have a better chance to contend elsewhere.  However, maybe Al values contending in Boston above all else. 

As others have mentioned, an Irving S&T would be the easiest path towards making this work.  If I'm the Nets, I wouldn't facilitate a sign and trade unless I get the Memphis pick in return.

The only other thing I can think of is a an agreement between Ainge and Horford on a 1+1.  Al takes a massive pay cut with a promise from Ainge for a new deal at the end of next season.  Ainge would essentially need to give his word that Al will get a big contract regardless of injury.  It's probably a pipe dream but I can't come up with anything else.

The more realistic option to get Horford back would be to move Hayward.  Somebody might take him into their cap space for the Memphis pick.

With Horford and Kyrie under contract last season, the Celtics were 25 million over the cap. Their two contracts totaled about 48 million. That left the Celtics with 23 million in cap space.

Then the Celtics lost Baynes (28 million in space), then Rozier and Morris (41 million in space), then added the rookies (34 million in space). That--very generally--is how we found one max slot open.

I know nothing. But learned a while back that Kyrie's departure would not equal cap space, due to rules above my head...like birds.

Assuming Charlotte actually is interested in Rozier, could we not resign Horford and then work a double sign and trade deal with Charlotte?  We'd have to add some salary filler.  That way we'd operate as an over the cap team which would get us the MLE and BAE.
