I agree with the OP, we're gonna miss Al's defense. I had Al penciled in as starting PF, his natural and best position.

Nobody stops Embiid and Giannis. We're also gonna miss Baynes on the defensive end too.

Timelord doesn't stay healthy long enough to really gauge his impact. I barely count him as help at this point.

I love Al and I think he played great defense on fives at times.   But he looks worse than he did last year and is only getting older.   We will miss him but had still stayed and aged I wager people would be calling for him to be traded in a year or two.

I feel the same way.  It would be nice to keep Horford around but the ceiling on this team is higher with Kemba.  The Kemba signing puts a lot of pressure on Ainge and Stevens to fill the void in the frontcourt.  That said, I wouldn't want it any other way.

I agree. Would be dumb to have extended Al another 4 years.  Writing was on the wall.

I'd rather See Al Deteriorate on another team...

He played Awesome against Embiid a few times yes but I always thought that was more of Embiid not taking his conditioning serious (and often being injured) and Yes he did okay with Giannas a few times but No can really stop that kid, and once he gets that jump shot together... Good night.

And I still have that nightmare of Anthony Davis giving us allll the work...

We can be a better team with someone in that spot who can challenge shots and Rebound.

And yes we will miss Al's 3 ball... But that will be offset by a healthy Gordon and a Point guard who might actually care about getting other guys off.

If we get Capela, he can pretty much cover anyone Al can, and will be slightly better than Al was. If we get Adams, we won't quite have the flexibility, but in many matchups, we'll be better off.

Otherwise, I think you're likely right.

Big Al is a better overall player than Capela.

He is a better distributor/facilitator. Maybe Cap can develop his game more under say a Coach Stevens but this remains to be seen.

Cap can jump out of the gym...rim run...defend down low...catch lobs...but he can't (or hasn't demonstrated yet) the ability to shoot from deep...

Attribute Cap's better shot-blocking to his smarts and athleticism but I still think Big Al is overall better..

That being said I hope Al changes his mind and stops smoking whatever Cuban (or whomever) is giving him. BOS is the best place for him.

He simply looks better in that classic Green.

Just curious, are you in favor of retaining Horford over signing Kemba?

Oh no...I'm hoping that Big Al can take a home town discount...such a thing is probably impossible (and selfish of me) but I'd hope he consider.

Gotcha!  Kyrie would need to give us a S&T parting gift.  A Rozier sign and trade + trade exception for Kemba would be the perfect scenario.  Unfortunately, I think Rozier is headed to the Knicks.

Such a thing would impart some good will towards BOS for all of the negative stuff in the press about him...certainly possible.

Of course, some of the die hards on here will hate him for life but it would be hard to NOT like such a parting.

Al is 10 times the bigger loss than Kyrie. If they could somehow have kept Al adding Kemba..while shedding rozier, Mook and Kyrie then they would have been a favorite to win it all.

I do agree Horford provides shooting/spacing and passing that Capela doesn't.

The title of this post concerned missing Horford's defense, and at this stage in their careers, Capela should actually every bit as good if not better.

If Russell were willing to go to Charlotte, I wonder if a 3 team 3-way S&T (Kyrie to Nets, Russell to Charlotte and Kemba to us) could be done and then give Horford a 4 year deal.

Horford is a 4/5.  Capela is a pure 5.  Horford has slowed down Embiid.  I don't recall Capela being able to do that.  Capela's offense is driven by Harden so I'd expect to see a significant drop off.
