Big man as in Lebron, KD, Leonard,  etc.  Not necessarily a center but a big player. Not a point guard.  Point guards are a dime a dozen and not worth a max contract.
could someone please post an image of someone moving goal posts here for me.

But to be fair, you’re not winning without a reliable big role player. They don’t have to be allstars/MVP candidates, but they have to be surefire starters who are very good at being, well, big.

Important big men in recent memory: KLove/TT, Ibaka/Gasol/Siakam, Draymond/Bogut, Draymond/KD, Duncan. Non-winners but contenders also had Embiid, Capela, BroLo, Jokic, etc.

These aren’t world beaters but they’re MIIIIIIILES ahead of Theis/Timelord, both of which I’m not even sure deserve to start in this league. If Theis bulks up significantly, maybe. If Timelord suddenly raises his awareness somehow, maybe.

Kyrie turned 27 in March. Kemba turned 29 in May. He’s 22 months older. But hasn’t had the injury history of Kyrie.

Personally I consider this an upgrade to get Kemba at $35MM per year than Kyrie at $44MM per year. That $9MM per year may not necessarily be able to be used entirely on other players but part of it can. This could end up being a total team upgrade (depending on what happens with Al’s situation).

And while the ream may have less talent on paper we might be deeper and last year’s team lost 4-1 in the second round. Next year I bet this team goes further.

I think your math might be off. We could've offered Kyrie a 5 yr deal in the $189m range. Which works out to about $37.8m a year.

Whoops. Maybe I was thinking he was eligible for a Supermax. I don’t know where I got that $44MM number.

not sure about those who think this is a bad signing :o

you always go for talent over need...and point guard is/was definitely a need. unless you were on the bring back Terry train or wanted to suffer through smart being your starting point guard.

either way. One week ago today we were looking at kyrie/horford leaving and missing the playoffs/going through another rebuild. For us now to be signing a marquee free agent in Kemba walker and moving forward as still a playoff team is pretty impressive. most teams would be crippled if both of their max-contract free agents left.

Tell you what, it’s nice to have reassurance about your star player wanting to play for you. Welcome Kemba!

Yup ,  I never was sure Kyrie was excited to be with a team he never liked before .  He seemed relieved more than excited , he was going to a good team and not off to never never win land and dysfunctional organization .  Thats NY and LA ...they want to be there no matter what a dog turd hole of place it is .  I would have to have Kyries money paid to me to consider pitting me in one of those two cities t live.

So two weeks ago there were a bunch of people wanting DA fired, calling him out on the Irving thing and draft night pics.

A week ago, again, but with Horford.

Now he's been able(not till 6pm) to get an all star pg that might work better on our system than Irving, filling a huge need.

Now you could say DA could have gone after an all star big, but who? Who's avalible thats on Kembas level that DA could have gotten?

Now you're point still stands, we need a solid big.

With in two weeks we've gone from not making the playoffs in some people opinions, to one piece away from contending. Maybe let DA get piece one in place and next week maybe piece two will fall.

Hell, maybe some thing tonight or tomorrow will happen. Still can S&T Rozier and open up cap, even resign Horford.

With Kemba coming in, I hope we trade Tatum for a big man.

Anyway, I wasn't impressed with how Tatum played alongside Kyrie last year. I like what Jaylen does next to a ball-handling guard. Hayward's trade value is too low. Tatum is the one I'd most like to move in order to get a center.

Not convinced there are enough balls to go around to keep all four of our stars (Kemba, Jaylen, Tatum, Hayward) happy and engaged. If they keep them together, I think one of those wings needs to come off the bench and accept being a 6th man. Make lineup combinations easier throughout the game and keep all more involved when on the floor (2 or 3 of them on court at all times, all 4 only to end games).

You do realize Tatum was the only untouchable for the C's in the last 6 months. And he's a big reason that Kemba is coming. They hung out with each other last week during the Jordan thing they did and were inseparable. Once they started to hang out, Boston went from maybe a shot, to stealth contender to legit contender with in hours.

Plus a Center worth Tatum isnt going to be available. I'm not going to push him to the side and count him out after last season, whole team was a mess. And we would still have issues with not having a bigger Foward to play with our new center. Brown/Hayward/Lanford/Semi/Yabu....

Rather keep Tatum, and try to get a solid Big for cheap, and then see whats out there at the deadline.

Yeah, our trio of wings is an area of concern much bigger than any weird chemistry issues that existed.  Too much talent concentrated in one positional group instead of better spread across the entire roster.  Brown and Tatum are big-time ball stoppers who don't really have much in the way of court vision.  Hayward is a huge question mark.  And none of them are particularly suited to being a full-time 4.

I don't see anyone being available that would be worth Tatum, however.

A high level one.

Put Tatum and the Memphis pick together and go after Towns. Put some other picks on the table if you need to. I disagree with those who say Towns is ungetable. It will cost a ton but it is not impossible.

I think it'd still be Hayward at PF with Smart starting at SG and Jaylen finally being able to play his natural position at SF. That gives us a lower usage player in Smart in the starting lineup to help balance the offense some more. Great wing defense with Smart and Jaylen together on the wings. Multiple ball-handlers. Multiple passers. Dynamic offense.

That looks to me to be a better option than any of our available PFs. Although Grant Williams could be interesting on nights where we need more size and rebounding.

That is interesting. I did not know that.

But it is in the team's best interests to move him, you have to do it. You can't let guys friendships dictate whether or not the team can trade somebody.

Probably not this off season, but I can see Minny whiffing on things this summer, having a terrible year, KAT getting really grouchy, and Ainge going back to the well on grabbing assets from a new-ish GM.

And I'm 100% not saying I'd trade Tatum on his rookie deal for KAT (I might), but I am saying there is at least one center that could become available soon with value in the same sphere as Tatum.

This is assuming Tatum's current skill level. If he breaks out this year and gets to be a top 20 player that's a whole different kettle of fish. You get a top-5 SF, you keep them.

Another name I'd throw out there is Markkanen.  Chicago probably would say no, or ask for additional assets, but he'd be perfect for this team.  Low maintenance, humble, and one of the best shooting 7 footers in the league at just 21 years old.  Can really rebound well too.

I love Markkanen. Agree, he'd be perfect here.

I'd trade Tatum for him.

Wait, so... is Kemba to Boston official yet? Lol I feel like we've forgotten about him in all this Rozier, Horford and S&T scenarios discussion.
