This rumour has been a real slow burner for me. I started out thinking "oh he's good but you know, it's not elite level". As time has gone by I've thought a lot about what he's achieved in Charlotte and obviously before that. But more than that, it's how he's done it that matters.

This guy is completely about basketball and competing and winning. He loves the moment, he loves the challenges, he embraces the responsibility. He's held a poor Charlotte team together for years.

A small market with little coverage, he hasn't got the credit for his achievement. A story arc well known in the NBA.

He's not the talent that Kyrie is but of course you also have to account for impact on chemistry and fit in a particular system. I've come to the conclusion that he's going to have a bigger impact than Kyrie, and we should be excited about him.

I just wish there had been a way to get to this point without losing Horford. We could have been true contenders with that lineup.

Nice post!  Kemba might turn out to be much like the love-child of KI and IT.

Charlotte would have been Phoenix/Cleveland level bad without him.  He is smart to escape from Charlotte now even if he has to leave $ on the table

Does anyone know the status of our current free agents if their cap holds have been renounced?  I wasn’t sure if that would happen simultaneously when/if we sign Kemba.

I don't think any of the free agents have been renounced as of yet. When they are renounced they become unrestricted free agents and the Celts lose any bird rights for those players.

Thanks. TP. With Rozier I think there is a deadline to extend the qualifying offer to keep his RFA status, but not 100% sure.

Yeah, I suspect Danny is frantically trying to arrange deals in which we get assets, even in the form of TPEs, for anyone we lose.

Even with Walker, I wouldn't be surprised if we agree to a deal in principle, and actually sign it later, to allow time for more moves that would be impossible if we signed Walker right away.

There is a deadline to extend the offer, but they can rescind the offer later as long as he hasn't signed it.

God, Ainge is so bad. What a useless signing.

Welcome to your 2019/20 Boston Hornets.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

There was not, but losing Horford might be a blessing for this team.

If they can find a way to be good-to-elite defensively, a Kemba-Tatum-Brown and normal Hayward foursome could be very competitive in the East.  If Kawhi leaves, it is between the Cs and Philly for #2 in the conference.

aside from having kemba on the team, what makes the rest of the celtics turn into the hornets? or is this just a hot take and venting?
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

It's not rational, I'll tell you that much.

If we assume Hayward keeps recovering, then Hayward, Tatum, Brown and Smart all arguably would've been the 2nd best player on most of Kemba's teams, including the playoff teams.

We may not be what we were hyped to be at the start of last season, but we aren't the Hornets.
2023 Non-Active, Non-NBA 75 Historical Draft, SAB Bulls:

PG: Deron Williams 08 / John Wall 17
SG: David Thompson 78 (HOF) / Hersey Hawkins 91
SF: TMac 03 (HOF) / M.R. Richardson 81 / Tayshaun 07
PF: Larry Nance Sr 92 / Blake Griffin 14
C: Lanier 77 (HOF) / Brad Daugherty 91 / Camby 07

Anyone who sleeps on 21 year old Tatum and 22 year old Brown has not been paying much attention. Celticsblog had good article about them. Add recovered Hayward and Kemba and that is a very, very good team years beyond the Hornets.
