Given we have a hole at C this year, would anyone entertain joining in the Butler trade in order to bring Olynyk back to Boston?

https://twitter.com/dangercart/status/1145533576299077632

Crazy set of sign and trades again... but I think it'd be of benefit to us. Olynyk is a poor man's Horford on offense, and wouldn't be a huge impediment to Williams growth.

I talked about this on some other thread, but can’t find the post to quote myself.  Based on my reading of Twitter, the Mavs want Olynyk and not Dragic, and the Heat want to trade Dragic, which is why the trade broke down.  So dangercart’s solution doesn’t really work if that’s true.  In my missing post I hypothesized what it would look like if we took James Johnson, who Miami would also like to move, or Olynyk if the Mavs use their cap space elsewhere and we’re the best Miami and Philly can do at that point.

Ah I see. I'd read it as they wanted Derrick Jones but the Heat wouldn't include him. Though admittedly dangercart's example doesn't resolve that.. Unless you count Yab as a huge piece in this deal... which I definitely do

The Heat have to trade Dragic for the cap maths to work I think, Olynyk and Jones isn't enough outgoing salary. Not sure who could end up taking on that contract willingly. The ramifications of the trade not going through seem pretty huge, for both the Heat and the 76ers!

If we had to take Dragic and Olynk (and I've never been an Olynyk fan) then that's fine. Kemba and Dragic can be our backcourt, Olynyk as our starting 4 and we can package Smart and Brown for a big.  Smart and Brown for Capela.

Smart and Brown for Capela?  Daryl Morey would love that idea. The Celtics, not so much.

I'd do it in a heartbeat right now because we are desperate for a big.
Smart and Brown for Capela? Are you serious and you would do it in a heartbeat?
I would do it for Towns, Embiid, maybe Rudy Gobert. But for Clint Capela? There was a thread about trading Smart for Capela and a lot of people voted no, now you are talking about Smart + Brown for Capela. I think you are severely underrating Brown and Smart. Clint Capela is a decent defensive center, not the second coming of Dikembe Mutombo

Danny Green's destination is something to monitor.

If he signs elsewhere, that's likely a sign Kawhi is leaving Toronto, probably for the Lakers (or Clippers).

Wow. Wonder how this is related to the Butler sign-and-trade.

The Heat will then have Olynyk, Anderson, and Leonard. Three perimeter oriented bigs. I wonder if Olynyk would be available.

Looks like Portland is out of Kanter now. Boston should do its best to nab him

How did Miami get someone to take on Whiteside?

I'm pretty resigned to him going to the Lakers. The prospect of teaming up with Anthony Davis to win multiple championships in his home town would be too good to pass up.  I think Lebron is an afterthought for Kawhi, honestly, and if anything weighs against the Lakers. But a future tandem with AD would be too good to pass up.

So yeah, I think it will be the Lakers. And would not be surprised if we hear about it sometime today, notwithstanding what he said.

You guys should go on and accept it now, KL is a Lakers. Time to move on.

Probably. If him and Durant teamed up as reported then I would've guessed Clippers (who have been very quiet.)

But now, I'd bet Lakers too.

Only good thing for us is it would weaken Toronto

yeah, as limited a game as kanter brings, he does rebound and score down low. CBS can built those skills into the game plan. he is not ideal, but he is a credible starting center...i guess.

I wonder why the Blazers are doing that. Nurkic is the clear starter. Whiteside is not a guy who accepts a bench role very well and seems like a locker room distraction. I find it odd why someone would pay 20+ million to a backup center. Did not understand that move, for basketball and financial reasons.

At a certain point last night Philly was in danger of losing Butler, Harris and Reddick while the C’s were looking assured to recover a bit by getting Walker, resigning or S&T Horford, possibly resigning Morris (or S&T) and getting the full MLE.  This morning’s news has C’s back in the room exception and renouncing Morris while losing Horford for nothing. Philly signs Harris and Horford and S&Ts Butler for a nice piece in Richardson.  What a complete and disappointing turnaround.

The only remaining salvage from last night is that it seems Kawhi is still in play for the Clips though I am fully expecting that to turn the wrong way at some point today.

Kawhi for sure going to Lakers. Time to accept it. Just hate how the Lakers get everyone and their front office is a complete joke. Their fans don't even deserve it. Now I'm gonna have to put up with Lakers fans crap everyday here and their "3peat", "multiple championships", "better than boston" garbage.

Got a source for that?

Man, Rondo9 just got put in his place. He asked for a single source and ended up getting a comprehensive link with MULTIPLE SAUCES.

I don’t think they’re counting on Nurkic to be 100% this year.  It’s a gamble, but if Whiteside plays this year like he did in his last walk year, it could work out.

Miami needed to shed some salary due to the tax/apron for the Butler deal.  This does that.  I would expect Olynyk will now be moved — maybe to Dallas like in the original plan, but I’m hopeful to Boston as part of an epic 4-way sign-and-trade.
