The Kings have officially rescinded their qualifying offer to Willie Cauley-Stein. He is now an unrestricted free agent, per @JandersonSacBee.

Is there any word on what teams are going after WCS?

Stick with character. Pass. Good talent, but I'd rather have a hard-working, high-IQ player than high-talent, inconsistent effort players.

I'd rather pass on Cousins, WCS, etc.

No word so far.

Only 4 teams have cap room left at the moment though.

Dallas, Lakers, Knicks, and Clippers.

I definitely think Ainge should consider him. He doesn't fit Brad's mold, but he at times has done a good job defending other bigs.

Would be great if Ainge could swing the full $9.4M and split it between 2 bigs.

I wouldn't be shocked if we're trying to involve Al/Philly in a sign and trade scenario and the price we'd pay is helping facilitate the Butler S&T that fell apart in some manner.

This is naturally ridiculously complicated and likely won't happen, but Mike Zarren has enough white boards and I'm sure he's trying to work on it all lol.  ;D

Yes, I’ve thought of that too, but I’m not sure that we’d be a good fit in that deal.  The Mavs are willing to do Olynyk and Jones, which we could probably also do with an Al S&T, but the Heat want to move Dragic (I’m not sure who plays PG for them??) who isn’t a good fit and is more than we can likely afford in terms of salary matching.  Maybe we could take James Johnson, but that’s a bad contract with another year on it, and I’m not sure what we get from Miami to make it worth our while.  Perhaps Tyler Herro, who Ainge was rumored to have gotten upset was taken at 13?

If the Mavs use up their cap space I feel pretty confident we’d do Olynyk and Jones if the Heat come back around to that idea, and we could certainly make those numbers work.  It’d be a crazy four-way S&T, since we’d use Al’s salary to simultaneously match Kemba, and (half) Rozier’s salary to match Olynyk.  Maybe if we’re getting a pick from Charlotte that can be sent to Miami instead to compensate for Jones (Charlotte needs to touch another team in a four-way deal anyway).

Seems like the Celts are gonna have just the room exception (just shy of $5 million) and veteran minimum deals to fill the following holes:

- Starting center
- Backup PG
- Third string shooting guard

This would seem to be a role for one of our draft picks.

Only if you assume they used the #14 pick on a guy who is not gonna play.

My guess is smart, jaylen, and Langford will all spend time at the 2.

At any rate, they have a spot for a deep bench vet.

Other ideas for smaller-ball bigs that I'd rather have than low character, high talent guys.

Dragan Bender
Marvin Williams
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson
Anthony Tolliver
Jared Dudley
Mike Muscala
Ekpe Udoh

I don't know the character of any of those players personally, but even though some of them are lower talent, I've heard good things about their work ethic.

Free agent Wayne Ellington has agreed to a two-year, $16M deal with the New York Knicks, agent Mark Bartelstein of @PrioritySports tells ESPN.

All these two year deals for the Knicks.

They really think they can someone stop being a tire fire and get Giannis in two years?  :P

Knicks are going to be left with somewhere between $13-15M in cap space after signing Wayne Ellington.

That's no longer enough to absorb Goran Dragic's contract from the Heat to help facilitate the Miami/Philadelphia trade.

If that butler trade falls through does that affect Al's contract agreement with Philly?

Seriously, I would have at least taken on picks for guys on two-year deals that were being shopped.  Set yourself up to max Giannis and one other guy, then trade picks and prospects for a third star in a walk year.

i was hoping so but i think worse case jimmy can take less than the max or pick another team s&t or clips/fakers and use that as leverage

Depends if Philly would try to sign Butler or just renounce him.  Presumably they’d renounce and sign Al.
