To all those who want to keep Horford....that makes no sense to me. He is about to turn 33, a full decade older then the guys we are building around. Hes at an age were every season you expect him to get about 5-10% worse. He isnt gonna be part of the next celtics championship, in my opinion you have to try and use him to gain assets that fit the timeline better. That could be a opt in and trade, a sign and trade, whatever. Capela makes a lot of sense.

In any event is isnt completely up to us, he can opt out and choose were he goes. Plenty of teams can offer him max or near max money and probably would, but if he wants to go to a true competitor we should help facilitate that.
There would certainly be interest in Horford but no team is going to offer him Max or near Max.

I'm kinda torn.

On one hand, I like Horford and his steady production.

On the other hand, he's not getting any younger and I wouldn't mind a younger, more athletic power forward.

Bingo!

The championship window for the Celts has closed.

Horford is not a priority anymore.

There's just no point in Horford playing for a rebuilding team like the Celts.

I didn't say anything about any window closing.

I still want to see us compete and all this talk about rebuilding with the "Jays" is making me puke my brains out.

I'm just saying it wouldn't be the worse idea if either Horford was traded for/or replaced with a younger, power forward. Someone preferably taller than 5'9.

C’s unlikely to deal for Clint Capela, and haven’t spoken with #Rockets  about him.

Celts’ optimism Kyrie Irving will return is deteriorating.

Great. So Ainge is just going to stand with his thumb up his rear and sell everyone on a "bright" future revolving around Tatum, Brown and Rozier.

Time for a shot of whiskey...or perhaps six or seven.

Yes.

Because that is a better move than making moves out of panic, or media pressure, or fan pressure for that matter.

He tried, he swung, and he missed. Dust up, recollect and try to do it again.

Or Golden State.

Man, would Horford be a great fit there.

Main thing to do with horford is get him to sign on the line for a new configured deal.

Then depending on trades and draft you play him. And perhaps at deadline move him for youth that better fits the timeline.

the following is not an opinion, it is a fact. You are wrong. There are several teams who might, or would get close. What is LAC gets Kawhi but not a second guy? Give Horford the max. What if LAL strike out? Give Horford the max. Teams will pay him 30+ million easily, probably not for four years, but he will get paid if he wants.

The problem with trading Horford is it's hard to trade his 30m salary without getting a bad contract in return.

Besides, if there's a team really interested in Horford, they would just tell Horford to opt out so they can sign Hoford in free-agency.

Another scenario is the Celts restructuring Horford's deal and Horford stays 3 or 2 more years in Boston.
What's the point in that if the Celts aren't competing for a championship?

Right now it's looking like the Celts will be building around Tatum and Brown.
Brown is 22 years old and Tatum is 21 years old.
Horford just doesn't fit in anymore.

I hope they agree to trade him. He deserves to be on a team with a chance to win. Hopefully they can work out. A deal with Houston for example. He’d be a good fit there.

The more I think about it the more I think that Horford will opt out and sign with another team.

He's at a stage of his career where it's win now or not at all. He only has a few years left where he can be a major contributor to a good team.  He should go play on a team that may allow him to make the Finals.

That spells huge trouble for the Celtics.  Horford is the lynchpin of their system on offense and defense.  They basically have to build their gameplan over from scratch.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Agree.

Horford is a good fit for Houston.

In fact, Houston was close to signing with Houston in 2016.
It was down to Boston or Houston and Horford chose Boston.

Missing out on AD and losing Kyrie automatically means the Celts start from scratch.

There's just no way around it.

It was supposed to be 4 star players, AD, Kyrie, Horford, and Hayward.
But it didn't pan out for Ainge and the Celts.

Houston was going to sign with Houston? They certainly deserve each other
