Hey Cap people, if Brooklyn renounces Russell's rights and he becomes a UFA would there be anything stopping us going after him if Kyrie walks?

Yeah, being able to pay him. We could do a S&T with Irving (counts for $20.1M), Yabusele, and pick(s) for a S&T of Russell (counts for $27.5M), but that isn't going to happen.

Anyway, this blows if you're a logical Cs fan and don't want to lose a top 15 player in his prime for nothing. For the rest of you guys, I guess you'll get what you are wishing for.
I think Kyries outgoing will count as his previous year salary plus either 20% or 50% I can’t remember so it will be either $24M or $30M outgoing

The ONLY way the nets would do a sign and trade is IF the Celtics can benefit them. The benefit would be if they could help facilitate a 3rd star (AD) to them.

Now the Celtics could either get. TPE for it (21M) or they can attempt to negotiate on how the Celtics could get a 3rd player in return. (Ex., Russell, Tatum, Caris LeVert Celtics 14th pick, Brooklyn future picks; AD goes to Nets, Jrue Holiday goes to Celtics)

Now you can gauge on your own how likely that would be to happen, but that’s where we are at.

It’s not that I didn’t understand people’s pojnts in not wanting an asset to walk for free, I have just been past that to the point that’s I knew there was a huge possibility of it happening. If Cavs lost Lebron TWICE, and OKC lost Kevin Durant. Which let me understand that once these guys hit FA the odds for compensation is near negated.

The Celtics have been winning trades for a while now, it’s about that time they finally loss 1, but it’s ok. It’s definitely not the end of the word. It’s not like Lebron leaving Cavs and we stuck with a bunch of pieces that don’t fit. We have players who are ready to play and play hard. The next thing y’all are just going to have to brace yourself for is Smart being traded. Once you are prepared for that then you have to prepare for Rozier being the starting PG. just trying to get ahead of what’s going to happen guys.

I do not see Smart being moved if they are not going after AD. I also do not see Rozier being brought back for any reason.

I think.... I think we have to deal with the possibility that Rozier is more likely to come back than not.

Typing that hurt. I was in born in Brooklyn, maybe I could root for the Nets. Maybe I'll just take a sabbatical from basketball altogether.

Well, if it’s Irving and Durant to Brooklyn, I get it and can see him moving there, though that’s clearly still not the best team in the East. I think they’re still behind both Toronto and Milwaukee and right there in that grouping with Philly, Boston, and Indiana, though likely the best of that group dependent upon what everyone else does.

Otherwise, what would make Brooklyn more desirable than Boston? Outside of him being spiteful at Boston and Brooklyn being a bigger market, it makes no sense for him to go there if he’s wanting to win.

And that’s why I’ll be fine moving on from Kyrie if he goes to one of the NYK teams by himself. All of his talk about staying here, wanting his name in the rafters, blah, blah, blah, will all prove to be just hollow talk, demonstrating that his head isn’t in the right place to begin with and he’s not the one to lead us to banner 18.

Btw is anyone thinking that they might well be making a run at Kawhi? He's mentioned New York as a destination... They could be looking for Kawhi and Durant alongside Russell

TP you took the words out of my mouth. Dude is a fraud if he leaves for the Nets on his own. Everything he said and did would prove how fake he is. Some leadership skills right there.

It's not like Brooklyn is a terrible team, Sean Marks and Kenny Aktinson have really built a great culture there. They're on an upward trend.

However, it might not be all about basketball. His sister is based in NYC - she's started a fashion business here - and they're very close. I've also heard his daughter and her mother live in NY too (I can't substantiate that, though). So I think if he wants to be closer to family and he's looking at the Knicks and Nets and leans Nets, his head actually might be in the right place. There's life outside of Boston.

A team can trade as soon as their season ends.

Sounds like the Nets are positioning themselves to sign Kyrie, S&T Russell to the Pelicans for AD, and then sign another guy.

All I can say is, if “I” were Kyrie I’d be thinking bad things can happen anywhere. I could get hurt, one of my main teammates could get hurt, the organization could be a mess, the weather could be bad, like literally a million thins could go wrong. If that’s the case, I think I’d rather all that happening in a city I’m actually in love with, HOME.

I truly think he always wanted to be back home, but was just traded to Boston. When that happened I think he truly tried to make the best of a “bad” situation (situation is looked as bad to him because it’s just not the location he wants to be). He thought the Boston history would motivate him to win and stay, he thought the up and comers he heard so much about would motivate him to stay, he tried to use “banner 18” as another motivational tool, but losing changes everything.

In conclusion, if I’m going to lose I’d rather be at a place I love doing it. Wish Kyrie all the luck in the world in NY.

They can't sign Russell until FA opens. AD will likely be traded on draft night. The timing doesn't work.

Unless the Pelicans decide they want Russell and they wait to trade AD until FA starts for that reason.

Wait...... who else do the Nets even have besides Russell?
