Someone on Reddit claimed the Nets are going to sign Kyrie and Jimmy Butler while the Knicks are signing Durant and Kemba.

Imagine if that happened?  Boston could reasonably be behind the Sixers, Bucks, Raptors (if kawhi stays), Knicks, Nets... maybe also the Pacers.   6-8 seed ... maybe lotto.

Unless some kids make a leap, our peers will be the Magic and Pistons.

I'm willing to bet you the few tp that I have that this will not happen at all.

Durant is coming back in game 4 and GSW are winning the title. KD stays to try and go for 4 straight titles, which MJ and Kobe do not have.

Butler made pretty clear that he wants money and Philly will offer him the max.  He will stay in Philly.

Kemba is not getting a supermax from the Hornets, but will receive a very good offer, bigger than any other team, and is gonna stay too.

Kyrie is going to the Nets alone, because he doesn't want to be the follower of anybody. He made it pretty clear already.

The trick of next season is Anthony Davis and I have no Idea where he is going. I thought we had the best shot, but I don't think Danny will go for it.

This offseason will have a lot less noise than people are expecting

There usually is less movement than the media says there's going to be. I wouldn't be surprised to see Butler or Harris leave Philly though. Also, somebody's going to choose the Clippers as a landing spot if Leonard doesn't.

I know there's limitations with the S/T option, but would BKN be motivated to send us Dinwiddie and Harris in a S/T to be able to get Kyrie, another max FA, and re-sign Russell?

One thing is sure. The Nets came back from hell a lot faster than I thought. Got to give them credit.

That being said, I hope we hit them next year playoffs and go for a gentleman sweep, with Smart and Brown shutting Kyrie down on defense. Would be nice to send him home with a bitter taste on his mouth.

I don't know. I think the Clippers will have to roll that cap space for next season or settle for 3rd tier free agents. I don't buy the narrative of the Clippers as a premier destination.
The only guy I could see going there was Kawhi, but I think he stays in Toronto, at least for one more season.

I think the Clips have a good shot at Durant. He lives there in the offseason, he wouldn't have to share top billing with another superstar, they have good young pieces, they play really hard and he can still reap the benefits of the tech world. I believe they were also his 3rd choice in 2016.

Otherwise, what would make Brooklyn more desirable than Boston? Outside of him being spiteful at Boston and Brooklyn being a bigger market, it makes no sense for him to go there if he’s wanting to win.

I think this was from a Jackie Mac article from earlier this season and maybe some of our own posters expanded on it (LarBrd?), but it was talked about how Kyrie left his high school team after his Sophomore season and after leading them to a championship to go to another high school.  Left Duke after 1 year.  Was going to request a trade after winning a championship in '16.  Was happy in Boston at the beginning of the season, but now isn't?  It's kind of this theory that Kyrie's a nomad, is chasing a happiness that doesn't exist, is a guy who always think the grass is greener somewhere else, or gets bored easily in one place, or something like that.

Leaving Boston after having his 2 best statistical seasons (by PER, WS/48, BPM, VORP, and by Per 36 production as well), and earning his highest individual NBA honor to date (All NBA 2nd), while maybe unusual for most, seems like it would be  a Kyrie type move.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

I thought this could happen before the finals. But now I'm thinking KD comes back in game 4 balling and helps the warriors beat the Raptors. Then he stays tô try 4 straight titles, which MJ, Kobe and Lebron do not have.

He’s out game 4.

You might be right, but hasn't the narrative all season been that the Warriors would win another championship and then Durant would depart to lead his own team? I'm not sure why his return from injury would make him suddenly focus on winning 4 straight titles.

Credit for what? Clearing cap space?

If the NBA is truly now going to be the best FAs moving as a group to whichever big market team has the cap room, it's pretty much lost my interest.

I don't think Boston returns to 40 wins without Kyrie. I actually think Boston will be ok. They will play team basketball and be better on defense.

Kyrie does not fit Brad Stevens system. He does not play team basketball and he is a liability on defense.

Cs won't be flashy but they will play harder. I also think that Hayward will return to his Utah numbers and he will be an All Star.

My only question is what do they do with the draft picks.

I'm with you. I think a lot of celtics fans are sleeping on our players

I just think Kyrie demanded so much of the attention that guys had to defer. This created some serious rifts on this team.

I actually think it's more Hayward that took attention and touches away and created rifts. I don't think Kyrie demanded any more attention this year than he did last year when he played his 60 games. It was really Hayward coming in that disrupted everything.

Brad needed to sit Hayward when he came into the game cold. You could tell in the first few minutes he was in weather he was going to be aggressive or not. Hayward was not earning his minutes and neither was Rozier.

A core of Tatum, Brown, a healthier Hayward, Horford (if he re-signs) & Smart + filler should get you a regular season finish of anywhere from 3rd to 6th depending on how quickly any of these new 'super' teams mesh + the degree of Hayward's return to form.  I think with Brad's coaching they can have a decent regular season.

But that group has no chance of competing for a title.  Further there's nothing on the bench. It doesn't help that they all basically lost a season of their careers because Brad chose to sit them and have them act as well paid cheerleaders.

This exactly.

Ans rozier amplified the issue. And the media spun it out of control

Yeah, but it's against the rules to rag on Gordon. Even though it's just stating the obvious with him at this point, people get super sensitive about it. Nevermind the fact that Brad gives him more leeway than other guys and maybe it was the clear favoritism that upset the dynamic in the locker room. But no no. It's all Kyrie.

Sounds like the Nets are positioning themselves to sign Kyrie, S&T Russell to the Pelicans for AD, and then sign another guy.

Are you mostly joking with this? I don’t see why the pelicans would want Russell and holiday together. A lot of other players make more sense than russell
