I always hated Ainge taking the two overseas players. I felt that was a mistake at the time.

Drafting good players late in the draft and expecting to do so are two different things. If you do find that diamond in the rough late in a draft, you should feel like you are lucky, not that you are good at it.
Case in point Draymond Green.  GSW took him at 35 after passing on him for Festus Ezelli at 30.  Imagine if Cleveland who had the 33rd and 34th picks had taken him.

We needed to stash the picks for salary purposes

This is why I hate stashed picks

Right, we couldn't possibly have parted with James Young to open up one of those spots.

That draft will haunt me until my grave.

Ah yes, the guy who believes Jaylen Brown would become Jeff Green without a jumpshot, is someone that is truly skilled at assessing scouting information for draftees?

Let me guess, Ainge missed out on Giannis, Irving trade will haunt us for a decade. Smart is a role player, Young shouldn't ever been drafted, and Yabusele was an head scratching move.

Very shrewd sir, very, very.

Eh?

Jaylen Brown has been a good shooter his whole NBA career... His true shooting percentage is pretty similar to both Tatum and Hayward and has been since his first summer league.

Ainge inarguably missed on Giannis (maybe you're the lone holdout who still thinks Kelly Olynyk was the right pick).  The Irving trade was fine (it's disappointing he didn't flip Irving in a trade for AD or Kawhi). Smart IS definitely a roleplayer, Young wasn't even a starter on his college team (super weird pick -weirder that they insisted on holding onto him for his full rookie contract), and Yabusele is clearly still the best player on the team (just kidding complete waste of a pick at the time - and still is). :)

I remember thinking that Dejounte Murray was a lock to be a really good NBA player

He's pretty good... He's only been in the NBA for two years and has already been named to an all-defense team.

I think he's pretty close to Marcus Smart.

You were going so well.  James Young started 39 of 40 games for Kentucky averaging over 32 mins per game.  Young was expected to be a mid 1st pick like he was.  So most definitely not a super weird pick.

Spurs draft exceptionally well. They're set for the future with their point guard rotation that cost them two #29 picks and a #55 pick in '09.

Dejounte Murray (#29 - 2016, now 22 years old)
Derrick White (#29 - 2017, now 24 years old)
Bryn Forbes (undrafted - 2016, now 25 years old)
Patty Mills (#55 - 2009, now 30 years old)
