Right now every hot take has Irving going everywhere but staying in Boston, us not trading for AD for that very reason, and every other team in the league getting better practically. We go from the future of the East to nothing because of a single underachieving season with a logjam roster?

Why should or would we go backwards? Why would the Lakers and Knicks who are both dysfunctional messes leap frog us. Nobody is showing the Celtics any respect. It's all gloom and doom. ESPN and FS1 are infuriating to watch right now tbh. It's like they want us to go away.

Thoughts on this summer and the narratives out there on this team?

I've learned to not care about the media.

And lets be honest, we're hearing more about the Lakers front office/Lebron drama than we are actual FA news it seems, especially in the past week. There's 29 other teams out there and many teams besides just Knicks/Lakers going after star FA's, but the media will always focus on those two, even over the likes of Chicago, Brooklyn, Boston, and other moderate-to-big market teams.

If anything, I just roll my eyes when they say this:

Quote
Right now every hot take has Irving going everywhere but staying in Boston, us not trading for AD for that very reason...

But they assume the Lakers, even despite ALL the drama, already have traded for AD + signed a max FA.

Things can turn around quickly in the NBA.  You're right that a lot of people in the media seem really excited to throw dirt on the Celtics.  It's a predictable backlash to the Celts being a golden team just a year ago and then having the sort of season of discord and disappointment that is usually reserved for franchises that Celtics fans like to deride and dismiss.

I definitely think that most folks in the media have been too quick to dismiss Tatum and Brown just because they didn't make a leap to stardom this year.  Sure, they had a disappointing season.  They didn't improve like we hoped.  That doesn't mean that their chances of coming close to reaching the very lofty expectations people had for them after last season are suddenly zero.

I agree that it feels kind of crazy that the Celts could be in a drastically worse position after it seemed like they were set up to be a top contender for the next 5-10 years.  That's just a feature of Danny's strategy.  Kyrie and Horford could leave in free agency, and the Celts will get nothing in return.  There is no guarantee that any team will want to trade a superstar player to the Celts for what the Celtics have to offer.

Still, even if all of the free agents leave and the Celts are forced to use all of their draft picks, the Celts will be in a much better position than many NBA franchises.  They will still have a proven coach, a smart GM, and competent ownership.  They will have a young team with plenty of potential, and a reasonably clean cap sheet.  They will have plenty of ways to improve moving forward.

I'm generally pretty pessimistic, but I think the chances are very good that next year's Celtics team will be much more enjoyable to watch and follow on a nightly basis than this year's team.  Super low bar, but still that should be a comfort as we wait to find out what will happen.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Well, it really is a sexy storyline. A team destined for greatness crashes and burns due to in-house drama.

Imagine if that happened to GSW, with their 4-5 All-Stars. The media would eat that up, which they kinda have this year. The difference is, GSW is winning. Imagine if the warriors got bounced in the 2nd round to the rockets. Would the headlines be about the Rockets? Or the Warriors’ implosion?

Honestly there's a chance we're tanking next season.  Things didn't work out at all.  Our roster lacks talent.  We're in a bad way.

The media hates Boston sports. No love for the Celtics, and detest the Patriots and dislike the Red Sox and the Bruins.

It has merit.  If Kyrie leaves - all bets off.  At that point, Horford might bail.  Could look to shop Jaylen for a guy with more years left on his rookie contract at that point... maybe use #14, #20 and #22 to trade up a few picks if we like someone around #11.  We'd just go full youth and wait for Tatum to develop while we ride out the Hayward albatross.  Possibly feed minutes to Time Lord as our new starting center.  Maybe 25-35 win team.  Tank for a top pick next year... hope to the basketball gods that Memphis doesn't go Sacramento on us and the 2021 pick ends up something tangible.  Maybe target the free agent class after Hayward rolls off the books.

The media tends to know a lot more than we as fans give them credit for.  Sources are certainly wrong all of the time, but the media actually has real sources.  Some times we as fans just don't like what the tea leaves are saying, but that doesn't mean the tea leaves are wrong either.

Young Marcus Smart.
3 firsts and a nice lotto next year or year after.

Options upon options.

I’m very psyched.

Lol. Horford has only given indications of wanting to stay regardless of Kyrie. I get that acknowledging that doesn't help this bad take.

Trading Jaylen Brown simply for more rookie years is simply stupid. When has Danny done something like that when Brown is a genuine gun prospect. Just because you keep harping on about him being a "fringe star" talent doesn't mean that that's how really anybody else thinks about him.

If you think that that team has comparable talent levels and coaching to the Atlanta Hawks of this most recent season then I have really nothing to say to you. That's a comically bad assessment that I don't think you genuinely believe

In his scenario you are taking Irving and Horford off the team and in that the Hawks probably do have similar talent.  Young might very well be the best prospect on either team and Collins isn't that far behind Young.  Huerter just made the 2nd Team All Rookie.  Spellman, Bembry, Len, and Waller-Prince all look like at least quality rotation level players if not more.  Throw in some cagey vets and frankly the Hawks are pretty similar to the Celtics without Irving and Horford.

And I take issue with his scenario in the first place considering Horford has given no indication of leaving. He's just made it up and acting as if it's going to happen
