If Irving leaves I'd consider a trade of

Protected 1st, CP3 and Capela
 for
 Smart, Yab, Baynes and Hayward

Helps Rockets match up better vs Warriors.
Helps C's match up better against Bucks.

Rockets start Harden, Smart, Hayward, Fareid, Baynes.

C's start CP3, Brown, Tatum, Horford, Capela

Put Capela on Giannis
Put Smart on Curry.

Vomit worthy. CP3 has perhaps the worst contract in the NBA. He is a good passer who is a solid rebounder for his size. However he's an incredibly inefficient scorer who can't stay on the court and is no longer the good defender he once was. I'd rather not pay $40+ million a season for that.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

I would move hayward in a three team deal for Paul...as long as paul went to anither team...say NYK or Orlando for pieces.

Something like this.

Hayward and Augustine to Houston.

Paul, Tucker to Orlando

Aaron Gordon, Markelle Fultz (both flipped with Brown or Tatum for Davis) to Boston.

cp3 an't never liv n on the east coast .    Maybe Miami to play is a long shot  , he is  just not ever play n for the celtics ever.  he is like totally entrenched with the western usa

only the Knick or Lakers would be dumb enough to buy into his contract , he is hurt like 50 % of the time it seems .  And he is not going to get healthier .  He is on his way to steve nash body depletion.

Add one of the top pgs ever at a position of the biggest weakness of the team while narrowing down a bloated front court.

Rofl. He's 34 and hasn't played over 61 games in 3 years, with one of the fattest contracts in the whole league. Orlando would have absolutely no interest in him regardless of how good he once was

It seems like the best course of action for Houston is to not make any trades where they mortgage their future. Stay with the current players. Hope that CP has good first 2 months then flip him for cheaper players... also hope that someone else takes down the warriors... like Denver or clippers ( if a key player for GS is hurt)

I have no interest at all in trading for CP3.

However, if Kyrie leaves and Horford indicates he wants to go to a contender, I think it would be worth looking into doing a sign and trade of Horford for Capela.

Capela doesn't make you a contender by any means but he's probably a useful asset to have and he is more in line with the age timeline of Brown, Tatum et al.

I like this idea if all your conditions are met.  I wouldn't like Kyrie and Horford leaving, but I'd be up for doing this if that's what's gonna happen.
2023 Non-Active, Non-NBA 75 Historical Draft, SAB Bulls:

PG: Deron Williams 08 / John Wall 17
SG: David Thompson 78 (HOF) / Hersey Hawkins 91
SF: TMac 03 (HOF) / M.R. Richardson 81 / Tayshaun 07
PF: Larry Nance Sr 92 / Blake Griffin 14
C: Lanier 77 (HOF) / Brad Daugherty 91 / Camby 07

Like... have y’all watched Capela play? He’s not impressive at all...and I also don’t understand why everyone is down and CP3. Who give a crap about his contract, with or without him we don’t have cap space anyway and when Kyrie leaves we need a PG ....

Have you? Capela isn't just a rim running big, he's a defensive anchor that can rebound, and make defenses aware of his presence on pick and rolls. It isn't like Harden just lobs it up, Capela is an expert at catching lobs.

I admit CP3 still has 1-2 good years left in him, but he would cripple our cap situation for years to come... But yes let's take the 34 year declining PG that is owed $159 million the next 4 years.... (And we will have ample cap space in about 2 years.)

As long as it's not your money, right?

CP3 is from North Carolina. Why wouldn't he return to the East Coast?

Not saying I want him but the comment seemed odd...

You just described Theis and Williams if they got Minuets. I’m not advocating that we run out and get Chris Paul I’m just saying it’s at least something to be discussed if your only reasoning is his contract. Of course a cheaper version of CP3 Would be Rondo
