This is why I wanted the pick to convey last year.  I kept saying on here that a bird in hand is worth 2 in the bush and got a lot of pushback.  You just never know what the value of a pick is going to end up as and teams are starting to recognize that more and more.  Memphis certainly could win the lottery and have the pick convey next year, but there is no guarantee the pick will be any good in 2020 either, especially if Memphis does end up in the top 4 this year and Morant and Jackson continue their upward trajectory.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I think there were definitely more people who wanted this pick to roll over last season, but there were a number of us who wanted this pick to convey last year.  Nobody was on an island saying it was better to get the pick now.

And while it's interesting that Memphis was clearly attempting to tank as recently as a month ago, with Morant being this good so soon and the fact they have a lot of good young talent up and down the roster, they may be going for it now.  The bottom of the west is weak this season, and a sub .500 record will probably make the playoffs.  Memphis just beat the two teams they're fighting with for the 8th spot (MIN/SAS) and clearly looked like the more talented team.

Memphis may still end up tanking for their pick, but if they do, as I've said before, nobody should be expecting this pick to yield anything great if it defers to next year.

If Memphis has not jumped up in last year’s lottery and the Celts got the 9th pick, who would you have drafted?

Rui
PJ
Cam Reddish
Cam Johnson
Tyler Herro

Are any of those guys a sure-fire future all star in your opinions?

Arguably Morant is the best pure point guard in the Western conference right now.    Doncic and Harden are ball control point forwards.

Not sure fire all stars but PJ Washington is very good as is Tyler Herro. Either one would do.

They can tank all they want but they're not dropping into the bottom 6. So unless they get very lucky this pick is heading to the C's this year.

Still extremely early but that draft seems kind of rough after top 2

I would have taken Reddish.  I think Ainge would have taken Herro if he couldn't have moved the pick.

Looking at their schedule, they've played 18 good teams (the worst qualifying team being OKC) and only won 4 of those games.

They have 21 games against good teams to go and are unlikely to win more than a handful.  The keys are, does Morant hit the rookie wall, and how do they do against middling teams from here on out?
2023 Non-Active, Non-NBA 75 Historical Draft, SAB Bulls:

PG: Deron Williams 08 / John Wall 17

SF: TMac 03 (HOF) / M.R. Richardson 81 / Tayshaun 07
PF: Larry Nance Sr 92 / Blake Griffin 14
C: Lanier 77 (HOF) / Brad Daugherty 91 / Camby 07

Grizzlies are beating the Rockets (at home, but still). Jeez, this team just flipped a switch all of the sudden.

If the pick conveyed, would we still have been able to make the numbers work for Kemba?  Isn’t that basically why we traded the rights to Thybule?

Well, the Grizz are torching the Rox tonight. Hoping for 6 in a row.

I guess we can flip this death watch thing and try this...

They get the 8th seed and beat the Lakers in the first round...I'd take that as a second prize.

Morant is 10 for 11 with 26 pts....cheeez

Currently #16.

Yabusele and Rozier were #16

2003 #16 (Troy Bell) was moved in the Marcus Banks and Perkins trade, 2013 #16 (Nogueira) was moved in the Olynyk trade

Grant--- good
Tremont-- ave PG but useful in maine
Edwards-- below ave right now
Tacko-- not useful right now but because of height, will be next boban.
Langford--  Bust.
