I'd still trade Brown and Irving and picks. I think a third team with a young player and expiring would need to to help. don't think NO wants Irving, but would love Brown.  I just think adding AD and taking away Just either Brown or Tatum doesn't help. You're adding a 25+ scorer, need to free up the ball a bit more.

AD would give us a better inside out side game and teamed up with Horford, the paint would be well guarded. Move Hayward to the 2 spot and Tatum to the 3. Gives them both more touches, gives Hayward more opportunity to run the offense.

Love AD but I'd rather keep Horford if we can.

Joel just raked AD over the coals the other day..just abused him.

Joel doesn't do that to Big Al.

As long as we can keep Big Al I'd be open to acquiring AD.

A lot of these proposals are junk.

The Rose Rule allows for players finishing a rookie contract to sign for a higher percentage of their team’s total cap if they hit certain thresholds. The Rose Rule is reserved for players who have won an MVP, been named to two All-NBA Teams, or have been voted in as an All-Star starter.

The Rose Rule is aptly named after Derrick Rose. The provision in the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement was named after the point guard won the MVP for the 2010-11 season, only his third year in the league.

The New Orleans Pelicans wisely utilized the Rose Rule to sign Davis, but now this takes away any chance of Boston trading for the unbelievable big man—so long as Kyrie remains in Boston.

Kyrie and Brown could work to get him but Kyrie has to be included in any deal and it will take picks too.

Kyrie would walk this summer if he's traded to New Orleans, and the Pelicans would know this. He does not bring back value in a trade since he's an expiring contract.

If getting AD requires losing Al, that's an easy call to make.  There's only one Embiid.  Keep Baynes or similar player to defend Embiid.  Let AD feast on other teams including GSW.

If we are trading for AD say before the draft, if the deal is Smart, Tatum, Williams and a package of picks. You make the trade. Tatum is not untouchable. If it's between Brown and Tatum, I would want to keep Tatum but if it means losing Tatum to secure Davis, you do it.

With Kyrie, Davis and Hayward, Tatum would be relegated to a third or fourth option anyway.

Kyrie
Brown
Hayward
Horford
Davis

is still a multiple title winning team, even if Tatum isn't here.

I dont know Nick, that is a big haul for one player. I dont think AD does the deal. He wants to win so why go to a depleted team?
big haul? It is Tatum, a role player, a recent Kate 1st round picks, and draft picks. How is that a big haul?

Also depends what your bench is after the trade is hypothetically made. Rozier likely leaves in FA so who is our other guard after Kyrie/Brown?
The trade couldn't happen until the offseason so you just fill out the bench after you get it done.
exactly and I mean come on, you don't make a trade because you lack a bench guard.  I mean really.  People are very strange with this sort of thing.

And for the record, if Smart gets traded, I think there is at least a decent chance that Rozier comes back.  The team can't keep both of them, but certainly could keep 1 of them long term.

Oh you guys are 100% right. I was just talking about the other poster who I think (at least I thought) made the point that we may be only a slightly better version of Pelicans (better starting lineup BUT not so great bench)

Keep in mind that because of the Rose Rule, the Celtics cannot trade for Davis IN-SEASON unless Kyrie is sent off in the trade package (which would be stupid IMHO).

But obviously they can trade for him this summer if they'd want to (regardless what Kyrie does or decides), however it also depends on if the Kings Pick lands at a good spot (like Top-10 overall). Plus it may be tough for us to outbid a team like the Lakers honestly if they decide to go "all-in" (like trade 2 of Kuzma/Ingram/Ball AND Hart in a package - hard for us to beat that).

I'm a bit surprised Chicago (his hometown) isn't a preferred option for him. Also would PHI even work with him since Embiid is already there?

Huh? How is that "hard" to beat? lol We could probably double that offer if we wanted between our mix of young talent and picks. Hell, a package of Tatum, Williams, salary filler, and the Kings pick probably beats that alone lol

Yep, and all the Celtics have to do as tell New Orleans to wait until the summer to do this trade. If they don't want to wait, then let them settle for an inferior return.

We can put out a much better offer pretty much over anyone else for Davis.

The one advantage we do have is we still have quite a few future picks to offer in trades, including 1 or even 2 very high picks (Kings Pick and/or Grizzlies Pick). Sixers I don't think have that luxury (unless Kings Pick lands #1) nor do the Lakers.
