... he's shooting 39%/36%/72%... why are people acting like he's Larry Bird or something? I know the guy is an improvement over Rondo, but ya'll realize there's a player in this league currently shooting 52%/54%/92%, right?
Smart's alright. Should have a future. Bit of a bummer we ended up with the 6th pick. Andrew Wiggins is looking like a superstar already and he's only 19 years old. This month he's averaging 21 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 1.4 steals on a fantastic 48%/39%/86% shooting. Really wish we had landed a top 3 pick. But Smart has potential.
In college Marcus Smart shot 29% from deep as a freshman and 30% as a sophomore.
In the summer league he shot sub 30% from the field (could not find 3pt %) and in the preseason he shot ana abysmal 23% on 44 3-pointers. Furthermore in the first month of the season he shot 24% percent from downtown on a whopping 5.3 3s per game. He had shown no reason to believe that he would be a good shooter. ever.
Since then, Smart shot 38% in the month of December and in January he has shot 43%. He has made 29 of his last 68 threes which comes out to 42.6%. For the season only Aaron Brooks is shooting a higher percentage from downtown than Smart has shot for the last month and a half.
Now, Smart will never be a 43% 3pt shooter for an entire season. He probably wont even be a 40% 3pt shooter, but the fact that for two months now Smart has proven that he can shoot the ball pretty well is incredibly encouraging considering the fact it was arguably the biggest concern about his game coming into the league.
the excitement is 100% justified and to say otherwise is just being pessimistic.
That being said, hes not Steph Curry so people thinking we have found the next nba marksman should chill, but I havent really heard that from anyone.
