He's already one of the better players in Europe. Top 5 probably.

How many Euros have come over and been anything more than okay or decent players?  How many of them have ever lived up to the hype/anticipation that surrounded them?

Mike

Yeah, who wants international players?  It's not like the current champions are half comprised of talented foreign players who everyone undervalues, giving them a huge advantage over the rest of the league or anything

Really?

Off the top of my head, here are some current ones in the NBA:

Pau Gasol
Marc Gasol
Dirk Nowitzski
Tony Parker
Andrei Kirilenko
Danilo Gallinari (not all the way there yet, but was averaging 15 points per game for his career as a 24-year-old before tearing up his knee.  But for the injury, he hasn't been disappointing.)

Some ones from years past include:

Drazen Petrovic (probably would be a Hall of Famer if he hadn't died at the height of his career)
Peja Stojakovic (maybe he's still in the NBA?  His heyday was years ago)
Tony Kukoc
Vlade Divac
Detlef Schempf

Take that team of Euros in their prime years, and it's competitive with the 1992 Dream Team.

Those are the stars and superstars, from memory.  I'm sure you could find a significantly longer list of players who've had very useful NBA careers if you wanted to take the time.  Sure there are the Darko's and the Bargnani's (although he's been mediocre and overpaid, and not terrible).  But there are also the Kwame Browns, the Michael Olawakandis, and the Anthony Bennets of the world too.

so to recap, we could trade Rondo, pick Embiid and Saric, and have none of them for the start of next year

tankpalooza 2.0

ugh

I think Sac parts with Thomas Mclemore and the #8 for Rondo. To me Thomas is an afterthought in the deal who would likely then be moved. At his size he will never be able to defend at a level where he will be a PG of a playoff contender and his production will dictate a starting PGs salary.

I could see using Thomas to move up a few spots from #17 to ensure getting Saric. Maybe to #14 with the Suns?

Yeah but if Fords Mock holds and the Cs could be getting Smart and Mclemore for Rondo that's not a bad haul. This would throw Smart right into the fire leading this team. Likely placing the Cs in the lottery again but that's a major build up of talent.

We HAVE to hold out for their pick and Thomas, period!!!!

Don't know whom I'm responding to, but Thomas is a restricted free agent.  The time for acquiring him was before the deadline.  He can't be traded until after the free agency period, so you'd have to hope Sacto picked the player you want, and then that Thomas didn't cost too much money.

How many years will it take Embiid, Gordon, Vonleh, Exum - to name a few - to get to a place where they are considered one of a team's 'Big 3'?  At least 2, probably 3-4 years.
So what if Saric spends 2 formative years in Europe?   Only a few guys -- Magic, Bird, Kareem, Lebron -- take over a team from day 1.   Building for 3-5 years from now is OK by me.

LOL. Okay guys, name five better players.

Right now, better players just in the ACB League top 4 teams:

Rudy Fernandez
Sergio Rodriguez
Nikola Mirotic
Bojan Dubljevic
Justin Doellman
Ante Tomic
Juan Carlos Navarro
...

Guys like Papanikolau, Sergi Llull or Fran Vazquez are similar value to Saric right now, in my opinion.

And Turkish/Russian teams have more money to spend, so they get to sign the more expensive ones, but you get it. Saric has the potential to be better than those guys, but you have to wait 3-4 years for that. I love the kid, but the best thing for him and the team that drafts him (hopefully Celtics at #17) is to stash him a couple years in a Euroleague team. Then, come to NBA and after his rookie year he'll be ready to contribute. Look at Thiago Splitter.
