Again, this is about probability. You can always come up with some concocted scenario in which Rondo gets traded this summer, if that is what makes you happy. But it is far more likely that he is still here until at least next summer. And still very likely well past that.
I think you're right that it's more likely he stays here this summer than not. I disagree about it being more likely than not that he stays here beyond next summer.
Given that, I'd rather there be a resolution to the question sooner than later. Maybe it's "wishful thinking" to speculate about ways that a scenario could come together where it would make sense for both sides.
I'd love for Ainge to pull off a miracle trade that sets the Celtics up nicely to compete as soon as next year, or at least the year after that, but I'm operating on the hard-line assumption that this is a 3-4 year rebuild, since most rebuilds last at least that long. That's why I think Rondo's future lies elsewhere.
