Everybody keeps ignoring the fact that the instant Green was made a starter he became the most consistent scorer on this team.
He averaged 20+ PPG over about 25 starts across the regular season and the playoffs, and he had very few off games during that stretch.
In fact Green is a more deadly scorer than Josh Smith right now, and probably better than Millsap as well. The only guy in that group who is as good a scorer as Green is Al Jefferson - I'd love to see the Inside/Outside combo of Green/Jefferson with Rondo running the point, but not sure of our chances.
We already have one scoring threat, we just need to add a second and we are sweet in that department. With Milwalkee apparently showing interest in Paul Pierce, bringing back Monta Ellis (who reportedly is testing the free agent market) would serve us nicely.
A 1-2 punch of Ellis and Green could be deadly if Green continues at his current rate. Only downside is that Ellis looks as if he might be on the decline, and he'd probably want a long term contract.
I'm very optimistic most of the time but I have my reservations about JG. He seems to have thrived in a very specific role as option 1.b. on a team that did not have much to lose - no pressure, just go.
However, there's also his surgery. He's not supposed to be 100% yet until some time next season.
Along with a slew of behind the scenes, who knows which Green we'll see next season. I don't think and don't hope we'll see timid Green.
But whether we'll see a slightly worse version, the same one or even a better version I cannot say and I don't think anyone will bet their life on it.
I don't think an even better Green is as unlikely as some insist, though. Ainge has done a good job putting all that talent in a fairly nurturing environment.
As for Ellis, I'd rather go for Tyreke Evans. The backcourt would be small as heck with Ellis. With Evans we'd have a very nice compliment to AB who could also work with Rondo.
But I think a big like Al Jeff or Milsap or even J-Smoove (at a lower price than he's asking) should be more of a priority.
