yeah, I got a little off track there, but there is a segway...

I commented first on KG's minutes total and how hard he's played all those mintues...

Then it made me think of how many titles KG and pierce might have raised had KG gotten here earlier

Which made me think of how many years the talents of Pierce were wasted by not having another true superstar to go with him...

Which then made me think of how important it is going to be - if Rondo is believed to be "one" piece of our next championship team - to get him another 1-2 superstar players ASAP, ASAP or we will end up wasting a lot of his prime years just as we did with pierce...

This is my biggest concern about the direction of this team.

Rondo is already 27 years old. If Danny waits another 2 years before rebuilding, Rondo will be 29 years old. Not a lot of time for Danny Ainge to build a new title contender around Rondo post-Garnett + post-Pierce before Rondo's best years are in his rear view mirror.

So what are you going to do? Trading Pierce or Garnett is not going to net you a superstar.

No, it wouldn't, but it would have given Ainge two more years to acquire higher draft picks + explore free agency and trade opportunities with the improved cap flexibility.

I'm not sure what "improved cap flexibility" you're talking about. Having Pierce and Garnett's contracts is pretty much as flexible as you're going to get.

This is why Danny needs to trade Rondo as soon as Rondo is healthy again and his trade value is re-established.

I do think that trading Rondo in the next couple of years is a distinct possibility.  I'd hold off on it until after the 2014 off-season.  Depending on what moves Ainge is able to make over the next season, it's entirely possible we could have a boat load of cap space for the 2014 off-season.

If Ainge is able to free up cap space by then, there are a number of FA's available in 2014 that could put us right back into "contender' status.  If Ainge isn't able to accomplish anything by then, it probably would be best to move Rondo at that point.

Regardless, I definitely would not trade him at this moment in time.  His trade value, just by the nature of being currently injured, is probably nowhere near it's peak.  In order to get the best return possible, Rondo is going to need to have at least one healthy season of play at his previous level.

the incredible amount of minutes.  have to admit I'm very surprised Parish isn't somewhere on this list.

Yeah, I think trading Rondo may become Danny's best option if he can't find a quick fix once Garnett and Pierce leave. Unfortunately.

I'll be disappointed to see that happen. It would have been nice to see Rondo get 12-15 years here in Boston. Build a lasting legacy.

It would have been nice for sentimental reasons, but the reality is that these days it's usually not in the best interests of the franchise to keep a player for their entire career unless they are an absolute superstar -- a top 5 player in the league, in other words.  Rondo is a very nice player, but he's not that, and he won't ever be.

I think Danny has put us in a position that we have several paths we can take, all of which are pretty good, largely because he has accumulated some very solid young talent in Rondo, Bradley, Green, Sullinger and to a lesser extent at this point, Courtney Lee, Crawford, TWill, Shavlik and Fab Melo.

He's stock piling complimentary players right now - waiting for the opportunity to add the next true "Piece" player to the mix.
