Espn Boston reports that Boston must find a 3rd team to make a sign and trade with the Mavs.
While Espn Dallas says it is unexpected to happen (sign and trade).

So incase there is, why do we need our MLE and to whom Should we give it ? Mayo will cost more, Lee Will probably be had for that money.

I highly doubt Stiemsma Will get part of our MLE.

I think the best sign and trade we could make doesn't involve JET, but dealing with Memphis and Pistons. sending non guaranteed contracts of Moore and Williams to Memphis and picks, and Dooling + 3 mil cash to Detroit and JJJ.

Hornets have officially matched Gordon's offer sheet.
Let's see what Phoenix offers Mayo, this could be ending really soon, anything between 6-7 million per year for Mayo gives Boston a chance to work a sign and trade.

If not, It's going to be Lee in a sign and trade.
Resign Pietrus for the bi-annual.

I do not understand what hell he's doing...This team needs a big center(Howard). Need a replacement for Ray, 1 or 2 great snipers from distance, and to get back Pietrus.

Terry is ray's replacement....once Bradley comes back, he is the starter and Terry is the 6th man off the bench backing him/rondo up

No, Terry isn't the "Ray replacement"... we wanted Terry to go along with Ray. I think we are hoping to get Lee/Mayo as the replacement.

Of course Teery is not Ray's replecement

In a S&T, do all contracts need to be 3-years in duration?

Can the other team waive them upon arrival? (e.g., Pietrus to Houston)

Also, can players already on contract be included in a S&T package deal (e.g., Pietrus and JJJ)? How does that work?

1. Yes, a player who is signed-and-traded must be signed to a minimum 3 year contract.  Only the first season must be guaranteed though.  Any additonal players included, who are already under contract, do not need to be under contract for any specified time period.

2. Yes, the receiving team can waive any player it receives in a trade immediately.  Salaries of players with non-guaranteed contracts (i.e. Williams and Moore) do not count against the cap.  Players with guaranteed contracts can also be waived, but unless another team claims said player through the waiver process, the waived player's salary counts against the cap.

3. Yes, players already under contract can be included in a S&T.  This is typically done with the purpose of aggregating multiple player salaries in order to receive a player of higher salary.

Also, for anyone interested, here is a very helpful link to better understand all of the CBA ins and outs.  It's kind of a difficult read, but it explains pretty much everything.

http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q85

Thank you, sir (TP). I've been working my way through the link for a while now - dense! but useful.

Is it then that a player with a non-guaranteed contract is not owed any money if waived? They then just become unrestricted free agents?

I like the latter option.

Do we have alluring chips? Is JJJ and/or Moore actually enticing to either team? I would love it, and maybe I'm missing something... but I just can't see it

So in terms of pieces for a sign and trade for a current FA like Mayo, if I am not mistaken, we have the following under contract or eligible to sign who could be traded (I know, Pierce and Rondo too but I am going to go out on a limb and assume they are not in the discussion for Lee or Mayo):

Avery Bradley   $1,630,800
JaJuan Johnson   $1,120,440
Sean Williams   $915,852
E'Twaun Moore   $762,195
Michael Pietrus   $2,400,000
Keyon Dooling   $2,527,200

Williams and Moore are non-gauranteed which is nice.  We have the ability to sign Pietrus and/or Dooling (assuming we have roster spots open) and add in their salary.  Is is correct that Dooling is an Early Bird candidate and could only be offered a 12.5% raise ($2,527,200)?  Pietrus was a min salary guy last year so the most we can offer him is the LLE which is about $2,400,000 this year?

To me, this is why DA is holding off on signing Terry and Green.  That gives two open roster spots if he needs to sign both Dooling and Pietrus in a trade.  Seems to me, Memphis would like Pietrus to actually play plus Moore and Williams as they are Non-G.  Those 3 would add up to about $4M.  We could take back $5M in a trade but then we are really flirting with the luxury tax this year and next.

I don't think that is going to get Mayo.

Why is it that hard? He's seeing if he can get Mayo or Lee(Ray replacements), you have a sniper in terry, and waiting for the other teams to do some thing is to see what is out their. Ray replacements wont be cheap so he needs to do a sign and trade to get either one of those guys. If not its a cheap fill in until Bradley gets back.

The Big will come after that. They don't need a BIG center to take on Howard(he has limited offense), I'd be more worried about Johnson,Lebron,Wade,Melo. A service big man will be around in the next week, maybe he's hearing some more cuts by teams that he will want to pick up. I think with Wilcox and Sully they've helped solve some of the rebounding issue. Melo even had 10 yesterday so thats a positive.

Dany is a patient man. He dosen't make rash, pull the trigger moves. everything has a purpose. Like why isn't Green signed? Maybe to restructure his contract to sign some one else that would take more than the MLE.

He also may have seen some summer league players he liked. Joseph looks promising. He may wait for the Vegas one to be over with. Or maybe the Rooks are in a trade, and have to wait an other few weeks to make a move.

Many options, the team as of now looks good, just a couple more pieces, even if small and it will have been a good summer.

Yeah its really not that hard to understand... Whats harder for me to understand is how our big center need can easily be addressed by somehow obtaining Dwight Howard.  ::)

  • Let them hate, as long as they fear
Is there any worthwhile 5 in the free market that can help us? Are we set at the 5? or there is work to do? I have an answer to those questions but since I may be wrong, I want to know what importance,if any, Danny is giving to that position.

Last year we got routinely outrebounded both defensively and offensively BIG TIME with the same bigs we have right now sans Stiestma. I dont see any urgency in addressing that position. I see a lot of urgency for the other positions, but if we get outrebounded so badly, we wont get enough opportunities for our sharpshooters to win games.

We had a serious issues rebounding. Danny, dont get tunnel vision with the small ball.
And someday in the midst of time,
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a friend of mine

Wow, why didn't I think of that?  You should replace Danny as GM.

I'm sure you would find a way of getting Howard, a replacement for Ray (already getting Terry) and 1 or two great snipers...... with no cap space and minimal money to offer.  ;D
We all think we know more than we really do....
