Ray's play has seriously deteriorated this year... I'm not really high on bringing him back for any sort of money... Surprisingly KG is looking like a better resign option if he's not retired...

Weird. I can't even see where you're coming from on that one

There's a reason every contendor in the league was trying to (and will continue to this offseason) acquire him

He is not a good fit for this team as currently constituted. At this stage in his career he is having trouble getting an open shot even if he's running off screens. He would be significantly more effective on a team with elite creators where he can hit open shots of their drives. So if we are to lose anyone from our current core group he would probably be the best option.

However, if we go with the retooling method and are able to bring in good veterans at a discounted rate to make one more championship run; Then the floor spacing could be improved making it easier for Ray to get off his shot, allowing him to be used to his full effectiveness.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

It's not easy as it seems to rebuild the team because of Pierce's contract. Pierce is our captain and I love him and I want him retired as a celtics player.

First of all, there are some questions with unpredictable answers.

1. KG and Ray; They will stay or leave. Will we overpay for them?
2. Will we wait for 2013/2014 (especially for Howard) or won't wait. If we won't, will we push for a true center end of the year(Etc. Hibbert, Lopez, McGee)?
3. Draft Picks? Which rank and who?(looks we will pick up between 15. and 23.)
4. What will be Green's health status? Will we give him a huge contract?
5. Will we overpay Bass?
6. Will we keep Pierce 2013/2014 or will we give $5M and release him.(I wonder can we resing him again after released him?)

Anyway, IMO this is a usual scenario.

Draft:
1st pick: Rivers/Waiters/Ross
1st pick: Sullinger/Leonard/Zeller
2nd pick: Furkan/Crowder/Hummel(Furkan not ready for NBA yet, but I want him for future)
Undrafted: CJ McCollum or Bo McCalebb(Europe)

Green: 6.000.000$
Ray: 2.500.000$
Bass: 5.000.000$
Pietrus:2.500.000$
Garnett: 4.000.000$
= 55.000.000$

Rondo/Bradley/CJ McCollum
Rivers/Ray/Moore
Pierce/Pietrus/Crowder
Bass/Green/Johnson
Garnett/Zeller/Stiemsma

Still we have money. If we won't wait for Howard maybe we will push for Hawes or Asik(But still we haven't got a post-up player). Or we give up Bass and push for Hibbert, McGee, Lopez. If we will wait 2013/2014;

Rondo/Bradley
Rivers/Pietrus/2013 pick
Green/Crowder/2013 pick
Johnson/Bass
XXXX/Zeller

Salary cap for this team around 40.000.000$ (if we give Pierce 5.000.000$ and release him) and we will ready for Howard or other options. But 2013/2014 not satisfy for free agent centers except Howard and Bynum(the others, Al Jefferson, Pekovic, Splitter(RFA), Zaza, Dalambert, Blair and Mozgov). If we won't get Howard or Bynum, I would prefer this year's centers(especially Hibbert, McGee, Lopez)

Usual scenario works for me ... If we have a chance to pick Rivers+Sullinger that would be perfect for me :)

Green: 6.000.000$
Ray: 2.500.000$
Bass: 5.000.000$
Pietrus:2.500.000$
Garnett: 4.000.000$
= 55.000.000$

There is no way we get those guys for those cheap prices.

Green is going to want at least 8 or 9 million, both Ray and KG are not going to take that large of a paycut.

Green can want 8M or 9M, but won't get it because of the heart issue. Many people thought we overpaid by giving him 9M this season when he was actually healthy. More than likely he, like KG and Allen, will have to settle for MLE. That definitely seems like the target price for KG and Allen, as teams with cap are rebuilding, and teams that are contending have no cap room.

Wow, My first post came 23/03. Ok! 3 month later and there is some upgrade :)

Bradley ve Stiemsma progress is well. This changes many things for me. My new spreadsheet;

Usual scenario;

Draft:

1st pick: Sullinger/Leonard/Nicholson
1st pick: Harkless/Ross/White
2nd pick: Furkan(Europe)/Crowder/O'Quinn
Undrafted:Hummel/Bo McCalebb(Europe)

Green: 6.000.000$(Five Years)
Ray: 3.000.000$
Garnett: 7.000.000$
= 52.000.000$

Rondo/Moore/Dooling
Bradley/Ray/Pietrus
Pierce/Harkless/Hummel
Sullinger/Green/JJJ
Garnett/Stiemsma/O'Quinn

In post season;

Rondo/Bradley
Bradley/Ray
Pierce/Green
Sullinger/Green
Garnett/Sullinger

Next year;

Rondo/
Bradley/Moore
Green/Harkless/Hummel
Sullinger/JJJ/O'Quinn
Howard//Stiemsma

If Dany don't believe that we can get Howard, this would change many things. In this situation we must push for Hibbert this year. So we need to reduce Garnett's salary or pass Ray(it hurts me because i want all big three members to retire in celtics and their number will retire with them)

In this situation;

Green: 6.000.000$
Hibbert: 12.000.000$
Garnett: 7.000.000$
= 61.000.000$

Rondo/Moore/Dooling
Bradley/Ross/Pietrus
Pierce/Green/Hummel
Garnett/Sullinger/JJJ
Hibbert/Stiemsma/O'Quinn

In post season

Rondo/Bradley
Bradley/Pierce
Pierce/Green
Garnett/Sullinger
Hibbert/Garnett

Next year

Rondo/Moore
Bradley/Ross
Green/Hummel
Sullinger/JJJ/O'Quinn
Hibbert/Stiemsma

What if we dont get Howard and we dont get one of this year's RFA centers(Hibbert,Lopez,McGee)

In this case of course we must push for Smith. Maybe sign and trade Bass+JJJ+pick or some cash.

Green: 6.000.000$
Smith: 13.200.000$
Garnett: 7.000.000$
= 61.000.000$

Rondo/Moore/Dooling
Bradley/Ray/Pietrus
Pierce/Harkless/Hummel
Smith/Green/O'Quinn
Garnett/Sullinger/Stiemsma

(Wow Rondo-Bradley-Harkless-Smith-Garnett :) Maybe this is the best defensive five of all time :) and speed and athletic five too)

In post season;

Rondo/Bradley
Bradley/Ray
Pierce/Green
Smith/Green
Garnett/Sullinger

Next year;

Rondo/
Bradley/Moore
Green/Harkless/Hummel
Smith/O'Quinn
Sullinger/Stiemsma

'What if Ray and Garnett go' situations; First i kill my self :) Because Celtics will come Turkey this summer. This is my best opportunity to see them. Pufff!

Anyway;

First three situations still eligible If we have a chance to get Howard we can still wait, If we dont, We must get Hibbert(or other RFA center). If we dont get Howard and Hibbert we must push for Smith. 'No Garnett and Ray' means we have another 10 millions.

Again if we have a chance to get Howard;

Green: 6.000.000$
Terry: 5.000.000$(One Year)
Ersan: 6.000.000$(Five Years)
= 53.000.000$

Rondo/Moore/Dooling
Bradley/Terry/Pietrus
Pierce/Harkless/Hummel
Ersan/Green/JJJ
Sullinger/Stiemsma/O'Quinn

In post season;

Rondo/Bradley
Bradley/Terry
Pierce/Green
Ersan/Green
Sullinger/Stiemsma

(Ok we need another center for post season :) This means no Dooling and get Camby or Okur or Wilcox)

Next year;

Rondo/
Bradley/Moore
Green/Harkless/Hummel
Sullinger/Ersan/JJJ
Howard//Stiemsma/O'Quinn

Again no Howard situation;

Green: 6.000.000$
Ersan: 6.000.000$
Hibbert: Hibbert: 12.000.000$
= 61.000.000$

Rondo/Moore/Dooling
Bradley/Ross/Pietrus
Pierce/Green/Hummel
Sullinger/Ersan/JJJ
Hibbert/Stiemsma/O'Quinn

In post season

Rondo/Bradley
Bradley/Pierce
Pierce/Green
Ersan/Sullinger
Hibbert/Sullinger

Next year

Rondo/Moore
Bradley/Ross
Green/Hummel
Sullinger/Ersan/JJJ
Hibbert/Stiemsma/O'Quinn

Finally no Howard, no RFA Center, no Garnett and Ray situations;

That means we must push for Smith;

Green: 6.000.000$
Smith: 13.200.000$
Ersan: 6.000.000$
= 60.000.000$

Rondo/Moore/Dooling
Bradley/Ross/Pietrus
Pierce/Green/Hummel
Smith/Ersan/O'Quinn
Sullinger/Stiemsma/Okur

In post season;

Rondo/Bradley
Bradley/Pierce
Pierce/Green
Smith/Ersan
Sullinger/Okur

Next year;

Rondo/Moore
Bradley/Ross
Green/Hummel
Smith/Ersan/O'Quinn
Sullinger/Stiemsma

Finally no Howard, no RFA center, no Garnett and Ray, no Smith situations;

Ok, this situations I'am playing center position for Celtics :)

Ok I'am done :)

Option 1: Retool
In this option KG Ray and Bass all decide to come back. Let's say that all these guys come in at around $4-5 MM a piece. That would leave us with about $10-12 MM in cap room. We could then go get Kaman and a bench scorer like Jason Terry. This would bring us close to the cap line which would allow us to sign Jeff Green with the 2.5 room exception. This team would allow our young players to grow under veterans and take up our cap space with shorter deals preserving our future cap space.

I think retooling is the most likely option.  I don't think the projected salaries you have for KG, Ray and Bass are likely though.  I think all 3 are a bit low.  Also, I believe Green is a UFA and that we have no Bird or non-Bird rights to him (I could very well be wrong on that though).  I believe he'll command 6 mill a year easy from someone if not the C's.

Bottom line, even though I agree Kaman could be a realistic target, if we get him I think at least 2 of the FA's we'd like to resign would have to leave.

I am a fan of the retooling option, but this proposal is not going to work. 4-5 mil a piece for KG, Bass, and Allen?

KG will look for 10 - 12 mil for one or two years.
Bass declined his 4 mil player option, obviously he is looking for more money and long term security.
Allen will be able to get 6 or 7 mil from another team, Im not so sure we'd want to match that.
Jeff Green will not be getting 2.5 mil, I expect him looking for 6 to 7 somewhere and he could easily get it from a team looking for a young wing on an inexperienced team
Jason Terry made 11.5 mil last year, he isnt going to settle for 6 mil.

As nice as that lineup would be, there is no way our finances will allow us to sign all these guys.

I think thats why danny figures to retain alot of our own free agents.

we can go over the cap to bring them back...we can give Green, RAy, KG generous 1-2 year deals to bring them back without it mattering if we go over the cap...we can also do sign and trades to bring back quality players in return(see BBD-Bass)

TP to Lioney for effort.   I am impressed with all the thought and time that went into the post and I appreciate all C's fans from Turkey (hope you get to see the Big 3)!

I can't comment on all your analysis because of the prolific nature of your post, but it would be interesting to know how your Plans A through Z match up with Danny's.  Lots of food for thought.
