Boston could certainly sign players like Ben Wallace or overpay players like Ben Gordon or Charlie Villanueva, but it is not going to lure top tier talent with the makeup of the team as presently construed.
Great point. I think this was mentioned when the C's played the Pistons the other night, that the way Joe Dumars tried to rebuild the Pistons was a perfect blueprint for how NOT to rebuild a team.

- Sign non-All-Stars to overpriced contracts.
- Extend current players to contracts much higher than their worth.
- Stay in the area just out of the playoffs thereby giving yourself almost no chance at a high lottery pick.
- Put your franchise in the hands of unproven coaches.

One thing I don't totally understand is bird rights and RFA if you have cap space.

So If we are 20 million under the cap can we say for example sign Dwight and then still resign Green, KG and RA going over the cap?

That is my pipe dream roster and Likely NBA Champs

PG: Rondo
SG: Allen
SF: Pierce
PF: KG
C: D12

Bench: Bass, Green, Steimsma, Pietrus, JJ, and a serviceable PG.

Also how does this affect trades?

In season is easy to understand but once we are in the off season it gets murky..

Help please..

Also agree J Mcgee is a good alternative to Dwight.

Pairing KG even at his age with a defensive stud center would really be fun to watch..  And "NO" Perk wasn't that guy..

Offer max money to Eric Gordon and Kevin Love. Maybe Twolves won't match.

Then go after Hibbert / B. Lopez

Then like Mayo / Beasley / Cournty Lee

Hope to hit in the draft maybe package both firsts to move up a little.

Ideal (Wishful thinking) lineup:

pg: Rondo / Dooling / Bradley
sg: R. Allen / Mayo / Rookie
sf: Pierce / Green / Rookie
pf: K. Love / Bass / JJJ
c: HIbbert / MMLE / Stiemsma

I'm slowly starting to hop on the McGee bandwagon.

I just dont really trust McGee to be able to learn and thrive in a complex defensive scheme like the Celtics would/have employed with KG in the past (assuming KG would still be here).  He's been playing in Washington for years now and still looks lost on defense, falls asleep, gives up easy layups by biting on fakes going for flashy blocks, etc.

The big wild card here is that he HAS been in Washington.  The only veteran leader hes been around to learn any kind of game planning or work ethic from, was basically a cartoon character that'll poop in your shoe while youre in the film room with the coaches.

It's a risk.  McGee just doesnt seem like a very smart guy.  Putting someone with KG and Doc doesnt automatically maximize their potential.  KG doesnt work with anyone and if he sees any kind of laziness he could just refuse to take the guy under his wing.

Remember this guy?  KG wanted nothing to do with playing alongside him

we aren't getting anyone that will excite you.  By the time next season comes around there will be no major unrestricted free agents.  If we don't rebuild this team through trade... I'm going to guess our major signing is:

...
.....

Chris Kaman.  I'm just saying that if KG doesn't retire and we re-sign he and Ray to slightly cheaper contracts, we throw our money to the first legit center that is willing to come to Boston.  Kaman is coming off the bench for the Hornets right now, but probably is still effective (through 5 games:  24 minutes, 10 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.4 blocks).  Sorry to disappoint.  You'll learn to love him.  He's white.

Maybe he's a mid-season buyout candidate.  We'd be lucky to get him.
