I thought we were in position to potentially sign 2 max guys this summer? Out of that list I would consider Gay and one of Big Al

Name two guys who don't deserve to be paid more than Rondo, let alone the maximum.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean there. What does any of this have to do with Rondo?

We wontbe signing any players worthy of a max contract this summer, because there simply wont be any available who would consider signing here.  So I hope the team isnt signingany guys to max contracts at all.

I'm not counting anything out. Ainge with a ton of cap space and 2 first rounders is a dangerous thing. He has creative ways of obtaining players and I'm sure he will use all of his assets this summer properly. No one thought we had a chance at all at David West this offseason but we almost got him.

Rethinking this. Maybe these guys would be available if things go bad for their team this year. Maybe in a trade for cap relief and a 1st rounder and a 2nd rounder:

Joe Johnson
Josh Smith
LaMarcus Aldridge
Elton Brand
Al Jefferson
Rudy Gay

Are any of these guys really someone we want to invest max money in and invest the future on?
absolutely not

Yeah, I came to the same conclusion.

Bass is a backup player.  And energy guy for sure but he cant start on an average team, nevermind a good one.  Green is a starter in the long run.

So if we are choosing between the two, then give me Green.

the only thing i think danny ainge can and should do with cap space, two first rounders, and rondo is try to move up into the top 5 of the upcoming draft, which is loaded with potential franchise talents.

Yeah, I came to the same conclusion.

Aldridge, Smith, Jefferson, and Gay are all quality young players who could be key pieces on a very good team at some point.  But none of them is a franchise talent.  I'd give any of those guys money if I already have a good foundation for a team in place and I just needed another piece.  But for a rebuilding team, those aren't the sort of players in whom you invest a huge chunk of your payroll.

So yeah, for the most part I agree.

keep both.  The only 'max' player on the market next year is Dwight if he doesn't get traded or resigned.  Bass and Green would both be worth keeping to play with Rondo.  I'm more concerned about how to get KG and Ray's cap holds off the cap.

One side effect of voiding Green's contract is he will have less of a cap hold next season.

Rondo makes less than the max.  Rudy Gay and Al Jefferson not only don't deserve to be paid the max, they don't deserve to be paid as much as Rondo makes (and he provides way more value than his salary).

If the Celtics could bring in both Gay and Jefferson next summer, that would be a lot like the Pistons signing Gordon and Villanueva.

The biggest flaw in the OP's post is that we are going to be signing a max level free agent next year.

- Paul is off the market.
- Williams will re-up in NJ.
- Howard will end up in LA or NJ before the trade deadline and then re-up with that team.
- Brook Lopez, Kevin Love and Russell Westbrook will all have their contracts matched by the teams that hold their restricted rights.
- There is no one else out there worth the max level free agent money the C's will have unless through trade and I don't think there will be any max level guys worth max level money available that way either.

If Dwight Howard doesn't go to NJ I can see Williams want to abandon ship. We should offer Love a near max contract and make the T-Wolves match it. Finally, I don't know if the Thunder give Westbrook a max deal...If they do that, they'll probably have to move Harden.
