After we sign a max guy, like Dwight Howard we have in addition to him, Rondo,Pierce,Bradley,JJJ,Moore and room for either Green 5.9M or Bass opting in to his 4.2M.

Bass has shown in one NBA game enough for me to say I like him over Green, he could opt out and sign an extension with the Celtics at about 6M for 4 years just like Glen Davis got in Orlando.

Or he could leave in a Sign and Trade, for a guy in the price range of about 6 million, maybe someone better than Green or Bass especially since this is a contract year for Bass his trade value could be high next summer if he continues to play well, which we can't say about Green.

Which is more likely that we stick to Green ? Anyone here watched Orlando games how was Bass and Howard together on the court and in the painted area ? Was it a good combo ?

Honestly, I can't imagine a situation where Jeff Green isn't on the team next year. The guy isn't making anything from the team and still wants to be a part of it, going to every practice and game, shooting around with the players, etc. Not only will Green be a bargain next year with a reduced contract (presumably, even if he's healthy) but it'd be a huge stab in the back to not resign the guy after all this.

You've gotta put the brain above the heart in situations like this, but I don't see us moving on from Green anytime soon if he's healthy.

I believe that we can get both. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe bass has some sort of option and green has bird rights

We can probably get both. Green will take a pretty big pay cut, and Bass could use the player option.

We could get both - it's not like teams are going to be lined up for an average backup Small Forward with a history of brain issues....plus by then he'll have not played basketball in nearly two years

Doesn't the new CBA guarantee the full QO to players ?

Maybe Bass can be used in a sign and trade for an even more of an upgrade in the way we used BBD in a sign and trade this year.

It's just too early to tell with Bass.  If he gets the same number of minutes and touches Baby got last year, he should averaging about 14ppg and 7rpg off the bench, which is just about what earned Paul Millsap his contract.

I agree with the consensus that Green will be back.  The C's seem to be investing a lot in a potential long-term relationship.

The biggest flaw in the OP's post is that we are going to be signing a max level free agent next year.

- Paul is off the market.
- Williams will re-up in NJ.
- Howard will end up in LA or NJ before the trade deadline and then re-up with that team.
- Brook Lopez, Kevin Love and Russell Westbrook will all have their contracts matched by the teams that hold their restricted rights.
- There is no one else out there worth the max level free agent money the C's will have unless through trade and I don't think there will be any max level guys worth max level money available that way either.

Honestly you figure out the max guy, and depending on his position and what you have to do to make him come to Boston. Then and only then do you figure it out between Bass/Green/whomever.

Rethinking this. Maybe these guys would be available if things go bad for their team this year. Maybe in a trade for cap relief and a 1st rounder and a 2nd rounder:

Joe Johnson
Josh Smith
LaMarcus Aldridge
Elton Brand
Al Jefferson
Rudy Gay

Are any of these guys really someone we want to invest max money in and invest the future on?

I thought we were in position to potentially sign 2 max guys this summer? Out of that list I would consider Gay and one of Big Al, and Lamarcus Aldridge.

As for Bass or Green, I would say, as someone else said, it depends on who the max FAs are, and how much money Bass and Green want. I think it will also depend on if KG and Ray want to re-sign for less $$ for another 2 years or so. We may then have to chose between keeping Bass or Green and re-signing KG and Ray.

Aldridge absolutely, but I see no way that they let go of him.  He is on a very fair contract.

Name two guys who don't deserve to be paid more than Rondo, let alone the maximum.
