I do like it how Bird and Indy are trying to get in on this action.
Bird is smart and he understands that Rondo is a great young piece to have. And Rondo is reasonably priced.
When Collison was playing so well for the Hornets, I think you could make the case to pay him "Rondo level" type money, but you wouldn't dare offer that to Collison now for the way he has played for the Pacers.
I also believe that Rondo prefers to run and gun way more than Paul does.
Paul's game is much like Allen Iverson...pound the ball and look for passing opportunities, if there aren't any, make or create a shot for yourself. The only difference is that CP3 is way more capable of efficiently making those shots compared to AI.
Rondo, on the other hand would probably excel even more if he were in a free-er offense where they could rely on the fastbreak even more.
I do honestly believe that there is an aspect of Rondo's game that he, himself has sacrificed playing with an aging Big 3.
