Is Rondo good enough to be your first option on a championship team? I doubt anyone would say yes to that question. I would say that about Chris Paul though.

You need at least one superstar player to win a championship in this league. While Rondo is a very good player he is not a superstar as of yet. You are basically banking on him continuing to develop over a proven player like Paul.

If Ainge sticks with Rondo the question will be who does he team him with after this season? If Ainge strikes out the C's could very well be looking at mediocrity once again. If you can get Paul and Howard you gotta do it.

Wait, you said Rondo needed to be the first option, so we needed Chris Paul, but now you say we need Dwight Howard, so we don't need Chris Paul to be the first option...

I think the C's have a better shot at Howard if they already have Paul than Rondo.

I don't think the C's need Howard as much as they need someone like Paul going forward. Gambling on Rondo eventually developing a consistent jump shot is what it comes down to. If Rondo had that he would be the top PG in the league.

It's going to be interesting to see what Ainge's plan is post Big 3 era that's for sure.

The losses are going to continue to mount as Pierce, Garnett and Ray continue to age as scorers and we have no other options on the floor.

I'm 150 percent behind the acquisition of a scoring point guard if we're insisting that the Big 3 be kept together. I see no way we can continue to contend if they remain together with Rondo - no place to go for points in crunch time, and the Miami series proves that.

I'd take Rondo over Paul any day of the week.
The kid has so much heart, and pride.
That's what being a celtic is all about.
Listen to Chris Paul's interviews, jesus, he sounds like a spoiled kid.

i don't understand the excessive Rondo lovefest. Majority of us love Rondo and think he's great. And the ones who are saying "trade Rondo" are not trading him for some bum and a draft pick, it's for CP3.

comments about "fantasy basketball" sound pretty ignorant to me when the arguments that are being presented don't have much to do with stat padding but more about spacing, impact on supporting cast, etc.. CP3 would be a terrific fit with our team.

What I love about all this Trade Rondo frenzification, is that you all claim that your desire to trade Rondo is based purely on rational concern for the future of the Celtics.  So that's why you want to trade Rondo for Paul, Westbrook, Nash, and a host of other lesser and greater point guards.  I call bull.  It's all about scapegoating, and that's all it's about.  I just hope this crap storm of scapegoating calms down some time soon.

i don't think it's necessarily scapegoating. To clarify, i've never wanted to trade Rondo for Nash. I've always been supportive of trading him for CP3. and I've said that Rondo-for-Westbrook might be worth looking into.

i realize that you just might be one of the biggest fans of Rondo ever and think he's hands down the best PG in the league, but you have to realize that many of us think that CP3 is better - in terms of being an overall player and in terms of a fit with this current team and in terms of "rebuilding for the future". and it's not a matter of "fantasy league" thinking. it isn't like we're saying "CP3's scoring numbers are better and so we'd be better off with him!". It goes beyond that. How is us thinking differently from you equate to scapegoating especially when we can raise some legitimate questions/points/arguments?

well, sometimes you guys seem to forget that yours is only an opinion.
YOUR opinion is that Paul is better than Rondo, it is not an absolute truth! to me, for example, this is totally absurd.

And also you seem to forget the meaning of the word "gratitude", disrispecting a player who gave us so many great emotions in the last three years. Every single year RR broke a new franchise record, or league record. He brought a ring in Boston after so many years.

I personally dislike you people for these threads, but we live in a free world, so just keep the Rondo hate coming.

And don't try to say the usual things like "this is not rondo hate, just discussing possible trades bla bla bla"
you're clearly hating the man.
D'you think he'd be happy to read all this? actually he probably does, and this saddens me.

I still support you, Rajon, you're a beast.

So you're claiming we haven't contended since 07-08?

No, I say our chances mirror KG´s ability to step up his game. That´s what you need these top players for, when the going gets tough. You´re not going to win the NBA title with Tony Allen and Z-Bo as your best players, regardless of how good they can play for 8 weeks.

I´d love to hear what you think are realistic options for this franchise going forward, if trading Rondo isn´t one of them? Which players does Danny have to put around Rondo to make us a strong contender, and how can he acquire them?
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

It's not just KG. If we'd had a better bench than Scal/House/Marbury/Mikki in 09 we might have made the Finals without KG stepping on the court.

I don't really know. But almost every plan to rebuild revolves around getting Howard or going to the lottery and getting a franchise player. It seems to me that getting players that are on the level that the bog three are on *now* (not in 2008) is a more likely scenario.

Some people are talking about basketball, but you are solely discussing your feelings.

Rondo is my favorite player.  He has been since he was at UK(go cats).

I DON'T WANT TO TRADE HIM FOR ANYBODY.

BUT, from a cold, calculated, uncaring PURELY BASKETBALL standpoint, I think Chris Paul, when 100%, is a better player.

You may disagree, but you would be a member of a vast minority.

And I have made the argument that Rondo is better than every PG in the league, because I am a biased Celtics fan who loves the guy.

But I can't even come up with too much against a healthy Chris Paul.

Again, I don't want the trade to happen.  But it is, in my opinion, the appropriate basketball move, again, if CP3 were completely healthy.

It is EXTREMELY unlikely to happen anyway, so there's probably no need to get so worked up.
