I remember the year very well.  We were trailing the Philadelphia 76ers 3-1.  Everyone seemed to write that Celtic team off as too old. Philly had swept through the play-offs the year before to their first NBA championship. Wilt and the 76ers were the present and the future. Bill Russell and his Celtics were old, yesterday's team.  To make matters worse, Philly had 2 chances at home to close out the series.  Well, what happened?  We won game 5 in Philly, game 6 in Boston, and game 7 in Philly.  That was the first time an NBA team, trailing 3 games to 1, came back and won the series. (We did it again, of course, in 1981, against none other than the 76ers, but if memory serves me correctly, two of the three games were in the Boston Garden, so the feat was not as impressive).

I know this is our darkest hour. But this team is incredibly resilient.

I still believe.

I loved that team in 1968.

And I love this team too.

I would still have some optimism about Boston winning this series if Rondo was healthy. With a healthy Rondo, I think the C's are a threat to win three straight. An achievable task.

Without that health, my hope of a victory is pretty much gone. Unfortunately.

I started following the Celtics with the 1969 team but do remember talking about that '68 team back then.  I'm not about to give up on this team.  They're not out of it yet.

1968 was is an excellent year for another reason:  the earth was first graced by my presence in 1968.  ;D

Celts also came back from down 3-1 to force a 7th game vs Philly in `82, but lost it that time.

Nothing will shock me with these guys, but Rondo being severely limited makes it an extreme long shot.

One thing I will guarantee is that they will go down with greater effort and class than the Lakers if they do lose.
Yup

I like Terry Francona's approach when the Red Sox were down, 3-0 to the Yankees in 2004. "Hey guys, all we got to do is win the next game."  That was brilliant. If we can win just one game, game 5, in Miami (we won there before already), it will put the pressure on the Heat in game 6, where we will have great support and energy.  If it goes to a game 7, the Heat will have great pressure on them.

Let's just win one game, guys.

I remember 1968 too.  But, 1981 (being that I was 23 rather than 10) I remember better.

1981 was unbelievable -- at least if memory serves.  I think we were down in the waning minutes/seconds of every one of the 3 elimination games -- and we pulled each one out dramatically.

I think we need some kind of rallying cry.  Not 'you gotta believe' or Ubuntu -- something fresh.

How about "68!"

i was 10 yrs. old also in 1968 and also a Celtics fan, tho i really fell in love with them for life during the '69 playoffs.

problem is that Jeff Green is no John Havlicek.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce
