I remember the year very well. We were trailing the Philadelphia 76ers 3-1. Everyone seemed to write that Celtic team off as too old. Philly had swept through the play-offs the year before to their first NBA championship. Wilt and the 76ers were the present and the future. Bill Russell and his Celtics were old, yesterday's team. To make matters worse, Philly had 2 chances at home to close out the series. Well, what happened? We won game 5 in Philly, game 6 in Boston, and game 7 in Philly. That was the first time an NBA team, trailing 3 games to 1, came back and won the series. (We did it again, of course, in 1981, against none other than the 76ers, but if memory serves me correctly, two of the three games were in the Boston Garden, so the feat was not as impressive).
I know this is our darkest hour. But this team is incredibly resilient.
I still believe.
I loved that team in 1968.
And I love this team too.
