If Murphy ends wearing green, I'll root for the guy and all, but there's something I didn't knew about him. I wanted to know his playoff stats, but I couldn't find them. He hasn't played in the postseason.
So... what would the Celtics want Murphy for? Playing in the regular season to save minutes for the O'Neals, I guess. Because he hasn't playoff experience, he is no veteran presence for the postseason.
I know that doesn't keep him from helping the team, and I'd love the Celtics to get Corey Brewer, who has about the same playoff experience as Murphy. Rip and Powe have championship experience, so my dream scenario would be Rip, Powe and Sheed. If Sheed gets ready for the playoffs, and is willing to take the pain from his back problems (very big if, I know), there isn't a better big man out there.
If the Celtics can't get Sheed and Rip, Brewer and Murphy could be nice. If Powe's health is as good as he's telling, they better lock him as soon as possible. They need insurance for both the regular season and playoffs, and experience is highly required in that case.
Wait you are going to fault a guy for playing on crappy teams? There are plenty of things you can criticize Murphy for like his defense and sometimes lack of effort, but faulting a guy because he has been on crappy teams that haven't been able to make the playoffs is silly.
It's not like he gets to make the personnel decisions for his teams.
Calm down, I didn't say it's his fault, I don't know if he would have made personnel decisions better than the ones that ran his teams, but I wasn't blaming the man.
His lack of experience doesn't disqualify him, but he hasn't been there yet. I also don't run the Celtics (good thing), so credit/blame in case of him playing for the team will be ought to Danny Ainge.
The day he wears green I'll root for the kid and support him through thick and thin, but this boards are a good place to express whatever silly (or not) opinion.
