I thik Murphy would help our big man rotation while the O'Neals are hurt. You'd think Miami is a more attractive spot, but Murphy might prefer Boston for some reason.

Murphy?  Boston?  It all makes sense.

It will be very interesting to see who we drop if we do indeed sign Murphy.  I would guess Luke, Marquis, or Wafer.

I think Murphy just got traded in the Deron Williams deal.
In certain extreme situations, the law is inadequate. In order to shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law. To pursue... natural justice. This is not vengeance. Revenge is not a valid motive, it's an emotional response. No. Not vengeance. Punishment.

He'll be bought out, the Warriors don't want him.

It all depends on how we get our backup 3. If it's by a buyout, we need to drop 2 players (one for Murphy's and one for the new 3's roster spot). Marquis and Gody are my choices in that order, but MD's contract is larger, hence more valuable in a trade.

If we acquire the 3 by trade, in a 2 for 1 or 3 for 2, we won't lose anyone (except the players we traded, of course).

C'mon Dropkick, we've got a nickname picked out for you any everything!

Murphy's not a gamechanger, but gotta keep him away from Miami and he'll find his way into the rotation.  If he's in the fold, then maybe you feel a little better about sending Semih to Cleveland for Anthony Parker (although I'm still not sure I'd do that deal).

This doesn't pass the smell test.  I believe the Heat are at the top of the list, but I don't see the C's up there.

Smell test? If it was an unknown source, it's one thing.

Chris Mannix from SI, who was a locker room guy for the Celtics for 8 seasons and has worked for the Boston Globe...if he doesn't pass the smell test these days, who does?! I'd like to think Mannix, if nothing else, realizes we have 15 guys on our roster and would need to cut someone.

To me, the real question is who we cut to get Troy Murphy if we infact do, and I also assume it's Harangody.

Now, it's hard to observe how big the Celtics actually are on Harangody, but a hypothetical Harangody for Murphy swap is not half as bad a deal to me as say, Semih for Parker, or even Battier. Like already mentioned, we MIGHT...MIGHT be able to sign Murphy long-term, even if that means a couple of 1-year deals for a while, and assuming Big Baby walks.

Troy Murphy is a good ball player with a nose for rebounding and a 3 point range. And I'm not talking about a Manute Bol (RIP, 'Nute) 3 point range, but a Kevin McHale like range. He can defend 4's and 5's. He would be a good addition.

As for the other need (a 3), I don't think anyone wants to help the C's with trades. As far as buy-outs are concerned, I hope that the attraction of winning another championship is better than being under the spotlight, that is Miami.

Good luck, Celtics. Win number 18! Can't wait to rub it in on my friends and relatives from California.

If we sign Murphy it could free up Erden for the Battier trade

I think Miami, Orlando, San Antonio, and LA are all more attractive options than Boston, because they all would likely offer bigger roles for the playoffs.

We currently have exactly zero healthy centers, and our top three guys have played 65/165 player-games this year. Murphy doesn't have to be much of a gambler to sign with us if he's hoping for some regular burn.

File this under "descriptions of three point shooting I never thought I'd read"...

Interesting.  I've got to think that Miami would have the edge, due to more playing time being available and because of Florida's climate / friendly tax status (even if we're only talking about $800k or so, taxes add up).

If we add a wing and a big man, I'm curious to see who the outgoing guys from our roster are.

Sure, he would definitely get more playing time in Miami, but he would actually get the ball here in Boston. No matter who he is on the floor with.
