This seems to be a pretty good breakdown on why Boston cannot create cap room to become players for a big-time free agent this summer.

Great find.  That is a great article, and absolutely correct and thorough.  I think that needs to be sent to all of the talk radio stations and columnists in the Boston area, just in case they want to start talking about the C's going after a max free agent this summer.

Unfortunately I can't tell you which or how many quality free agents we could get in the case that Ray and Paul leave.  I can tell you that  Rondo Garnett Perk framework is not as crappy as people are making it out to be.....

If you could add Joe Johnson, Mike Miller and Josh Childress for example....you have a good team.

But you can't.  You could add Johnson and a bunch of vet minimum guys.  Or you could possibly add Miller and Childress (and a bunch of vet minimum guys).  And that is the problem.  It is very tough to renounce 3/4 of your players from a championship level team, and then find a way to replace them without a ton of cap space (they would not have enough to even pay 1 player the max).

Yeah.....on the other hand....if you're going to lose Paul and Ray Joe Johnson takes an awful lot of sting out.....

Not to me.  I would much prefer them using that cap space to fill multiple spots, rather than have two starters, and the backups from every position other than pointguard and PF (well, until Perk came back) being vet minimum guys.

Rondo, Bradley
Johnson, vet minimum
vet minimum, vet minimum
KG, Davis
Perk, vet minimum

That isn't really making me feel much better.

Is there any merit to the Beasley thing, so that you start
Rondo
Joe
Beasley
KG
Perk (eventually)

Johnson isn't the best example because of his age but I'd rather have Perk/KG/Johnson/RR/filler than Perk/KG/RR/better filler. We'd have a 2nd piece to rebuild with after KG leaves, or we could hope to get lucky when KG's expiring.

Are they trading Davis for Beasley?

Yeah, my problem there is Johnson's age, as well as his second (or perhaps third) tier status.  If we were talking Lebron or Wade, its another thing altogether, but I am not convinced Johnson is worth what they would be paying them.  I don't like him as a building block for this team, and wouldn't sacrifice the rest of the roster for him.
