Since it is seemingly a money thing we would need some bad salary back

Paul & Okafor

for

Rondo, Perkins, Davis, & Wallace

Shaves a ton of money off the long term payroll of the Hornets.  Perkins will probably be looking for a salary similar to that of Okafor on his next contract and at the moment Okafor is actually healthier so that doesn't affect much from the C's end (they are very similar players) and New Orleans can either let him walk or re-sign him (depending on what happens with the ownership).  Paul is better then Rondo so the C's upgrade there though obviously losing Davis is a bit painful, but he can be replaced on the open market (maybe Ty Thomas or someone like that).  If Sheed retires the C's don't have him anyway and New Orleans gets a ton more cap relief.

Then sign-and-trade pierce for LeBron
Trade KG for a sign-and-traded Bosh
Sign and trade Ray for a sign and traded Joe Johnson

And you go with

PG - CP
SG - Joe Johnson
SF - Bron
PF - Bosh
C - Okafor

Piece of cake.

not happening ;)
come on now, my proposal isn't that far fetched at all.  Rondo is a top five PG (not Paul, but not crap).  Perkins is younger cheaper and more ruggid defensively then Okafor (though they are similar in most respects).  Davis is a quality backup for Perk and West.  It isn't a bad trade at all for New Orleans and saves them a ton of cash.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

It's hard to quantify defense - but rebounding and steals are factored into various stats (like PER.)

Let's say there is a third team and the C's send Rondo there with another young talent going to NO, plus Perk and Sheed, and maybe a S&T for Scal to the third team to make salaries match. Then you get something like:

Okafor, KG, Pierce, Ray Allen, CP3

Bench: BBD, MLE, Tony Allen, Nate

What I like is CP3s shooting lets you play Tony a lot more without a drop off (our offense fell apart with Rondo and TA in the game.)

I think that team is probably good enough to win it all next year. I just don't know how you quantify the drop off from Rondo to CP3 in D, and I don't know how you assess the injury risks - CP3 has missed a lot of time, but Rondo seems like a perpetually banged up guy.

Here's the Trade:

We know that WorldWideWes wants CP3 and Lebron together.
We know NO wants to save money (especially long term) and save face.
We know that if Lebron decides he's going somewhere, stuff will get done behind the scenes to get him there.
We know that Cleveland will be better off taking back assets for James than for letting him walk for free.
We know the Clippers will fail at landing one of the true TOP FA's because their owner stinks.

So
1. Pierce to LAC for #8 and Mardy Collins. Pierce will then sign an extension to play out his career near his hometown. Clippers get someone to instantly fill the SF spot and get Baron motivated; they trot out a starting lineup of Baron, Gordon, Pierce, Griffin, Kaman.

2. Trade 15 million of the 21.5 million Pierce Exception from above for Chris Paul. Instant long and short term savings for NO.

3. Trade Baby, Perk, Collins, #8 for Okafor. This is in combination with #1 and #2, so that Collins may be packaged with the other two and the deal is "really" Okafor+Paul for Perk, #8, Baby, Collins, and lots of savings.

4. Trade Rondo, Sheed (retiring), #19, 2 future firsts for Lebron in a sign and trade.

5. use the remaining 6.5 exception. Either for Boobie Gibson to save Cleveland some money if they insist, or elsewhere.

6. Re-sign our own FA's to have bodies.

6. Buy as many firsts as possible

7. Go shopping for Vet Mins

8. Use MLE

Roster:

CP3/Robinson
Ray/Tony
Lebron/Scal/6.5 exception?
KG/MLE
Okafor/Vet Min

Can you trade Pierce's contract to another team?  I thought if we trade Pierce to the Clippers then his 21.5 mil would have to go to the clippers.

And besides, don't you think NO would want more for Chris Paul?

I would say trade the #8 and Baby to NO along with Pierce's contract (if you can do that) and nix the Okafor trade altogether.

-I think New Orleans would do Baby, Perk, Collins, #8 for Okafor and Paul. They save a lot of money right away, and can rebuild around:

Collison/Collins
Thornton/Peterson
Peja(expiring)/Wright/Posey
West/Baby/Songaila
Perk/

I don't see  how the Clips give that much for Pierce--S&T or not--knowing he could just opt out and sign with them anyway.

The CP3 rumor really intrigues me and I think we'd actually have as good of a shot as anyone outside of New Jersey.

If' I'm the Nets I offer them Devin Harris and a future first for CP3 and Okafor.
