For anyone that has seen Barnes play, Scal doesn't even compare.
Scal is a nice player, but Barnes is a legit NBA wing.  It is true that Barnes will not be going to an all star game in his career, but is a solid back up.

I like Scal but his main skill is knowing when to make good fouls and hitting wide open threes.

Also, if you don't think that Barnes is athletic watch the highlight video and pay attention to the last play.  Let me know if you think Scal can pull that one off.

No, no, no, Scal is the man! He has red hair and stuff, and he tries real hard. He's 6'10", can't rebound, is slow, and can't guard a single person in the NBA one on one, but I love him! Let's start him instead of KG LOL.  ::) Honestly, I can't even begin to understand how a single person could want this guy on the team period, let alone actually compare him to a legit NBA player. Not to mention he is not a wing player by any stretch of the imagination. If you don't like Barnes, fine, I am not his biggest fan either. But anybody that says that the Celtics don't need him because they have Brian freaking Scalabrine is guilty of some serious homerism in this case.

Barnes is nothing special, people on here have been jocking him all year "Danny is an idiot for not signing Barnes"

"We would have won the championship if we signed Matt Barnes"

Matt Barnes doesn't play defense, he's a run and gun west coast player. Scal shoots the three just as good but he fits into our halfcourt game, plus he's filled in at 3 different positions for us. The only things that Barnes does better is run and rebound.

Sure its funny that he's slow and has red hair, but he knows our system and doesn't make mistakes.

This is really my question, who is a better wing player, Scal, or Matt Barnes? We need a wing player, and Scal is not wing. Barnes is, therefore, he is a better fit at the wing. Scal may have technically played 3 positions for the Celtics, but he is an embarrassment at two of them. As a rotational 4, that can hit the occasional 3, and play good team defense, he fits. Anything other than that and you are setting him up to fail.

Again, my point is not "go get Matt Barnes, he is the key to a championship." My point is that saying that we do not need Barnes because we have Scalabrine is misguided homerism.

Scal is also servicable as a 3 on offense, but can't really defend as one. His defense is better against bigs (his job against Amare and David West during KG's absence was great), but against three's, he is consistently burned on drives.

I am still having nightmares of Rashard Lewis eviscerating him.

Yet Barnes claim to fame is guarding Dirk a PF.

Barnes is a nice fit on an uptempo team where he can be a small PF.

But on traditional teams, he was one of the worst players in the NBA.
