Well, take some of those pieces away if you're assuming they trade for Amare.  Phoenix wants more than just an expiring contract for a return.

by the way

Stucky
Gordon
Charlie V
Boozer
(center TBD)

bench of Prince and Maxiell

that's not half bad really - it just puts a lot of pressure on a brand new coach to get them all to buy in and gel together quickly

I don't think Villian can really play SF very well.  So it would be more like Stuckey, Gordon, Prince, Charlie V, Boozer.

But you are right, that isn't half bad.  However, to me, it looks like a team stuck in mediocrity for the foreseeable future.  They have a lot of talent there, but a lot of it is mismatched, and almost all of it is flawed.  I think they will be fighting for a 6th seed for the next 5 years.

True, but Boozer's expiring contract could be used to acquire a better fitting big man, or they could let it come off the books and have cap space to play with for the summer of 2010. I don't think Dumars would acquire Boozer as a long-term solution for the Pistons.

Who is a better fitting big man?  I actually think the big man rotation of Okur, Milsap, and Kirilenko is very good, particularly for Sloan's system.

I meant better fitting for Detroit. For instance, perhaps they could use Boozer's expiring deal to facilitate a trade to land Amare.

Stuckey
Gordon
Prince/CV
CV/Maxiell
Amare

Ah, my bad.  That is an interesting idea.  Although I don't know if Amare helps all that much more than Boozer.  What they really should be doing is trying to set up a 3-way deal with NO, where they end up with Chandler, and another player or two.  But I don't think it would happen.

Of course, but that depends on what other offers Phoenix is getting. Would they be able to do better than expiring contract, draft picks, and someone from the Daye/Afflalo/Maxiell group?

Chandler would indeed be a great pickup. I've seen Detroit fans on RealGM tout that starting five as ideal.

Well, the rumors from Golden State involve Biedrans (a helluva young center) and Curry, along with some other young guys.  They'd certainly demand Stuckey as part of a trade.

That trade offer is no longer on the table. Golden State is not dealing Curry, according to recent comments made by Don Nelson.

Whether that specific deal is on the table or not, that seems to be the level of talent that Phoeniex is going to be looking for if they decide to trade Amare.  It's not going to be a pure salary dump.  If they aren't looking to rebuild around Amare, I don't know why they'd be looking to rebuild around Boozer (assuming they could re-sign him).
