I am surprised. He would get almost 3 million on a championship caliber team next year. Being a superb shooter but really adding little else, how much money does he expect? I think his contract is pretty good. Maybe the Clippers can pay him the MLE, but is that really all that matters?

Why would the Clippers pay that?

Why would anyone pay Eddie $5.5 million???? He is a great shooter, but that is about it. He was actually voted the 5th worst ball handler in the entire NBA by players. And it was not just guards. He was considered a worse ball handler than Centers and Forwards! I love Eddie to death, but a guard that can't really dribble does not deserve anything close to the MLE. IMO he deserves around $2 mil if he opts out.

I'm not that worried.  In this economic environment, he likely won't do any better on the FA market.  Furthermore, while he's a nice player to have, he's not critical to the team success.  The team needs to bring in a veteran swingman anyway, so we won't really need Eddie at the 2 anymore.  As for the backup 1, it'd be nice to have him there.  However, Rondo's clearly proven he can play 35-40 mpg there.  If House goes, I'm sure we can find someone on the FA market who can hold down the fort at the backup 1 for 8-13 mpg.

If he takes the option to stay with team I would still think he's part of a package out of town.  I like eddie but he's not that hard to replace.  I feel pruitt could back up both guard spots and eddie takes away minutes from ta.  Not that ta on the floor is a big thing but he isn't a sf for sure.  At least at sg he can defend and drive to the hoop (and turn the ball over)
Like eddie but he can leave for more $$ and it wouldn't bother me

It was a way of speaking. What I wanted to say is that if House and his agent believe they can get more money or even the MLE from some team, maybe then they should go and ask the Clippers (just an example of a disfunctional organisation).  ::)

If Eddie does this, he'll be playing for the vet minimum next year. We could sign Flip Murray or Anthony Morrow instead (cheaper too).

Eddie's agent probably just lost him money.  No one is going to pay him more than what his option is worth.
God bless and good night!

An organization that is known to be cheap.

Even if House opts out, I do not see a team out there offering a contract more then what the Celtics will offer him.  (just because he opts out, doesn't mean the Celtics will not offer him a new contract, maybe at slightly less money)
