I hope we don't.
Honestly, he just doesn't look that impressive to me. Nice player sure, and I'm sure he'll have a nice career, but I just don't see "transcendent" in that kid.
I think if you land a 3rd or 4th pick, then you are pretty thrilled to get a guy as talented as Ball.
But if our pick lands top two (which I am hoping it will) then the only guys I see up there who look like true game changes are Fultz and Tatum.
I think guys are sleeping on Tatum in a huge way - most mock drafts have him going 4th, but he is a 19 year old SF with excellent size, good athleticism, good rebounder, good handles, solid passing instincts, excellent defensive potential, and the ability to score in a multitude of ways. Then on top of that, he has pretty good intangibles too. For a 19 year old to have all of those talents / skills already in place - his upside is through the roof.
I like Tatum just as much a Fultz tbh. If we take either of those two guys I'll be thrilled.
If we take Ball at #1 I would be pretty mindboggled...and if we took Ball at #2 I would be dissapointed. If we fall to #3 or #4 and end up with Ball then I'll be pretty happy with that result.
Personally, I'd either draft Fultz or else I would trade down to #2 and take Tatum, while hopefully picking up an asset or two to go with him.
