I could see Boston trading Hunter or Young for a protected 2nd rounder to some team that has a roster spot or a need.  I'm just not sure what that team is.  I mean Cleveland, for example, has a couple of roster spots, but I don't see them going for the more expensive route of those guys when they are so far in the tax and there isn't really a trade that saves them money.  The teams with cap room all have roster issues of their own so I see no reason for a team like Philly to just take on one of those guys when they are going to be cutting guys that may very well be better than them anyway.  Unless Boston has a bigger trade where one of those guys is just a salary throw in, I think Boston is just going to have to eat the salary and cut one of them.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Bye bye Young.  This is only Hunter's second year, I believe they give him m ore time....

ThePaintedArea -

"In any case, they didn't sign him as a free agent only to cut him a few weeks later."

Green and Zeller are going nowhere for different reasons. Green is staying based on his instant offense ability and his style fitting in with fast paced hoops.

"Don't get the comparison. Looks to me like their games are really different."

I mean guys like Eddie House, Jordan Crawford, Pressey, Gerald Green, Evan Turner are Heinsohn's energy guys. Gerald Wallace was the same player for defense. We got him after the crash, but there were still times he'd come in and all of a sudden our defense woke up.

If we are stale on offense, Gerald Green is a clear cut option with much more experience than Jaylen Brown who will be more dependent on a game's pace to get his easy layups.

Thanks for the confirmation of Brad giving a good grade to Jordan Mickey. That about does it. I feel bad for James Young, but he needed to feel a sense of urgency from day one in the NBA, not wait to be put on the hot seat for year three. He had to show a bit more.

RJ must have sensed he was on the hot seat too and dominated the Knick's game. RJ won that game for us.

I'd like to see Young get the chance to shoot up 10-15 shots and play 30 minutes. I need to see him prove he can do that and not look like a total scrub. RJ Hunter might be older "in real life," but NBA wise this is the start of RJ's second year and he's done everything asked of him so far.

RJ has the leg up in performance, but he is the more versatile of the two.   He has some playing making capacity, one cannot say that for Young.

Wanting to merely attempt to trade and cut if no trade is possible whoever is the worst player is a flawed and utterly simplistic way to approach this.  You should examine all of the end of bench prospects, not just Hunter or Young, but also Jackson and Mickey, and look at the difference between their on-court value and trade value.  If a team hypothetically wanted to trade a lottery-protected first for Demetrius Jackson and a couple of future seconds, maybe that increases the overall value of the roster+pick stash vs giving James Young and cash for a top-55 protected second.  I don't expect any team to make that offer....it's just a hypothetical example.
