IMO, C's are short one big body up front this season, but you just can't bring him over and give up the stash, too valuable.
Why is keeping RJ Hunter, James Young, and Jordan Mickey on the roster SO important?

i think part of it is that danny didn't wanna start his 4 year contract so early yet, in case Zizic was more of a project.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

Ainge clearly didn't think Zizic would give us regular minutes this year and I'd much rather have Zizic playing in a good Euro league than the D League.

I doubt DA looks at it this way.  Assets are assets until they are no longer with the team.  Injuries happen, plus he might be lucky enough to get a way-future 2nd rounder for one of them.  Danny will squeeze every drop out of that stone.
Assets are assets when they have value. Otherwise, they are junk. Sure, we may end up keeping these players because having someone to throw in a trade is objectively better than having a dead salary slot, but I don't think they're fetching you anything to speak of at this stage.
Yeah.  Just because you have a salary slot, doesn't mean the guy is an asset.  In fact, people get traded with dollars for highly protected 2nd round picks to other teams all the time just to clear that player off of a team.  That said, I think Mickey still has some value.  He has looked pretty good at times this preseason.  I also think Hunter may still have some value, though not very much.  I don't think Boston could really give Young away though.  He is most definitely not an asset and would just be a salary throw in in any trade.
OK, the word 'asset' is not so good in this context.  However, the larger point is that DA has no urgent need to bring Zizic over (and therefore start the rookie-scale clock).  If there is even a chance that Mickey or Hunter fetches you something in trade, then there is value to holding on to them as long as possible.
This is not baseball. Every season that you keep a player overseas is a year he's not helping you win games. If he can do the latter, there's no benefit of engaging in the former.

So youre questioning the whole point of stashing now? The Spurs would like to have a word with you.

I remember reading that Ainge and Co. Wanted Zizic this year but his team wouldn't let him come over.

i think it was a little different from what i had read. I read that Zizic himself felt he was NBA ready, but danny and the crew wanted to stash him. It was in a recent Globe article by Himmelsbach, Zizic was a little frustrated because his country men in Bender and Zubac were playing in the NBA this year while he was stuck overseas still. But then he came around and now hes a beast.

He looks completely different in his mind set and play. He was talked about and shown in highlights to be more of a stretch big going into the draft. Guy is dominating the paint right now, more so than Zubac who I liked more at draft time. Way to show everyone.

Looks like he is a lock to be on C's team come next year. I actually wouldn't even chance things I'd open a roster spot for him right now and after he finishes his season there bring him over. Without a doubt some team is going to offer him big money overseas to steal him away for a few years.

Unless their rights are traded. I could see them being part of a mid-season package so the core stays in tact for this season while adding a missing piece.
